i've seen a big problem where a villain/antagonistic character is revealed to have a sad/sympathetic backstory and the fandom immediately assumes the backstory presentation is trying to *justify* the villain's actions and ends up getting angry over it
I really liked obsession and im not disagreeing but I feel like we're all well versed on "nice guys aren't actually nice" by now this has been a common talking point for at least a decade it's not really a revelation to anyone
(stuck in a time loop) Sweetie, I’ve lived this day hundreds of times. Look, that guy is gonna sneeze (doesn’t happen) ok this must be the beta timeline, so that car is gonna run a red light (doesn’t happen) (getting desperate, switching to my Yoda voice) Trust me here you must
Something that kind of mystifies me about the way people interact with stories these days is the insistence on literally every single character getting equal amounts of attention or plot importance regardless of their actual role in the story
This would imply writers decide which characters would win by determining which one is physically a better and more capable fighter instead of things like “the thematic and narrative arc of the story I’m telling benefits the most from this character winning”
The real Aubrey Graham (trapped in a mirror): no! Don’t do it!! At least make one of them good!
Drake: NO. and I’m going to show everyone our meat again muahaha
Phenomenon where people on the internet, in order to distance themselves from "politics", have redirected their reactionary tendencies at hobby stuff and, ironically, end up sounding even more insane because they talk about Nintendo games the way people talk about war
“wait a second… Heat rises” (it hits me) “heat rises!”
Bank teller on floor: what?
“Heat rises!”
(I rush at the armed robber and he shoots me in the face killing me instantly. It’s unclear what my plan was)
anytime I see one of those takes like “it’s ableist to tell people not to be on their phones during a movie because what if they have ADHD” I think about how, as someone currently going through ADHD treatment, one of my fav parts about theaters is that it forces me to focus
I hate that we discourage earnestness in people. Everyone wants to appear nonchalant and unfazed. You're supposed to fear cringiness at all costs, everything's supposed to be a joke. This lady is honestly just exhibiting basic empathy...
