The biggest difference between Starmer and Burnham is that Starmer was lying to Reform supporters to try and gain their votes, and Burnham is lying to Green supporters to try and gain their votes.
Anything else is just noise.
It was George Osborne that informed us all that the elderly were the cash cows of the future - the hedge fund owners moved in and the entire system collapsed.
What the hell is Burnham playing at, what about all the profits the Banks make, the huge profits the Electricity gas and oil companies make, all these millionaires, like Blair who want to make pensioners poorer, how dare he, he should live in our shoes. Burnham is all bluster.
So Andy Burnham free social care isn’t stopping people selling their homes it’s only free care at home
So is this free care one visit a day , two or three
There is no information as most people seem to think it means they don’t have to sell their houses
The value of your home is not taken into account for personal care, only residential care. People will still lose their homes, so why did Burnham talk about how wrong losing your home was?
Hidden army”? Not hidden. Ignored. And by “army”, do you mean the unpaid carers quietly replacing huge parts of the social care system every single day - with no proper rest, no sick leave, no shift ending, and little financial recognition? We’re in plain sight. @YvetteCooperMP
Nothing has changed for social care - this is pure sleight of hand from @andyburnham.
Residential care home costs remain the same, you'll still get your 15 minutes, if lucky, a week from your outsourced council care provider this really is turning out to be the red herring it actually is.
Andy Burnham is a conman, just as Starmer was. There's a reason he won't do all he says he will before the next general election, it's to con you all again, exactly like Starmer did.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
When I was growing up nearly all the care/nursing homes were owned by 'us'. It is obscene to make private profit from the care of elderly people. Care homes should be not-for-profit.
It’s so obvious that i can’t believe it needs saying. Pensioners don’t have your money, refugees don’t have your money. It’s the rich who taken it, the clue is they have all the money. Unless we unite to redistribute wealth we will always be poor.
Let me get this right;
- old people are the problem so their pensions should be lowered more
- disabled people are the problem, make them work but cut their access to work funding
- young people are lazy, make them work & give NO support
And this is a “Labour” government?
The emperor’s new set of clothes are magnificent! Look at the cut, the colours, the boldness of design. Surely with this new suit, the common man will know his future is assured!
1980: Margaret Thatcher broke the link between pensions and wages. Pensioner poverty hit 3.9m by 1989
2026: Andy Burnham vows to break it again, calling it social care. Full state pension is £12,548 a year. Britain’s richest 350 hold £783.5 billion
Labour went after the £12,548
In Luxembourg the average state pension for 40 years of contributions is nearly 4x higher than in the U.K.
Far from being unaffordable the UK State pension is a joke, what is unaffordable is the tax evasion which leaves us with so little money to spend.
if sick people are having their money taken away and disabled people are having their money taken away and elderly people are having their money taken away then what is the point, this is a failed state, a failed society
So Burnham's social elder care changes will only apply to the cost of care NOT the accommodation/food costs. Strange how he's not explaining that when he talks about it. So properties will still get sold to pay for the lion's share of the overall costs.
There’s hope, and then there is whistling past the graveyard. Absolutely stunning to witness the general collapse of critical faculties on much of what passes for the British left. Bought off for not even mere crumbs but some warm words about mere crumbs. Every. Single. Time.
