I think it would be helpful if @EducationGovtNZ put out an alert to all schools regarding Tross Publishing, the racist contents of their works and the tactics they employ to try and get their books in schools.
Oh, and when I say ‘we’ in reference to 1977 I don’t really mean me. It’s based on my reading of publications dating back to then. I might be misrepresenting the exact state of knowledge and happy to acknowledge that.
I keep seeing the National Reading Panel (2000) being cited as evidence for ways to teach. It was published 23 years ago and our knowledge base has grown further since then. In comparison, in 1977 we barely knew what phonological awareness was and it’s relationship to reading.
Is our current knowledge too nuanced? Can it be synthesised more clearly? What is a more contemporary version of this? The 2020 series of articles put out by RRQ?
