Up late the night before Thanksgiving making sides & baking pies - later I’ll be grateful for family & friends but at the moment I’m thankful for having coexisted on earth for a while w/ @MFDOOM & @silverjews
- both of whose music lives on & is keeping me going tonight. RIP.
I was trying to explain to someone how New Orleans was different before Hurricane Katrina. I couldn't really describe it. Yes, families moved back and buildings were rebuilt but something was lost. You just had to be there.
The thing to understand about Katrina and the decades long struggle since is that we lost. The gentrifiers, colonizers, privatizers, and capitalists won. And we lost. They demolished our city and built a shit hotel on its ruins. The failed state we live in now belongs to them
@scottcolesbyjr There might be a good case to be made that “chat” in this usage is a collective noun, like “team” or “flock” in that it refers to multiple individuals.
@scottcolesbyjr It’s just a noun. A pronoun is by definition referential, it stands in on behalf of a specific noun, thus at one remove from the actual subject. “Chat”, regardless of usage, refers directly to just the one subject, the chat feed (even if it is composed of multiple individuals.)
@marsh_minnow Right, but in non-fabulous-celebrity version of aging, there are usually at least a few more visible signs than either of them betray... at least that's been my experience.
Are the days gone when your car was at a dealership for weeks & you spent several grand on repairs, it would at least get a basic wash & vac, if not a detail, as a courtesy? Got our car back from Bohn Bros Toyota today, dirtier than when it got there. No big deal, just sad.
Hard not to see it, as @antirealism said, as further evidence of the enshittification of everything these days. Here’s hoping that such a basic level of care & courtesy still exists & our experience was just an oversight.
But I kind of doubt it.
@antirealism The really crazy part is that we’re a dual-income, single-child, highly privileged, relatively successful family by most standards. How everyone less fortunate than us makes it work, I have no idea…
Paul Pelosi was almost assassinated, and Trump mocked him.
Trump was almost assassinated, and Democrats are condemning the attack.
That's the difference between the two parties.
@antirealism@HelenaMorenoLA@CmGiarrusso@freddiekingiii how is the City Council going to fix this irrational and unnecessary burden on our creative small business owners? People don't need any more reasons to leave town than they already have... Please address this ASAP.
Wow. Stay away from @priceline - they just ruined my whole business trip. Apparently the reservation I paid for w/ @thriftycars wasn’t confirmed & now I’m missing my meeting - & going to have to pay 6x the price for a rental, which I don’t even have time to get.
@RevRevvinEv Ugh. NOLA-ier than thou is such a bad look. Also, they have it backward - unless you're indigenous, the longer your family has been here the more of a -LITERAL COLONIZER- you are.
