Woodville volleyball and girls basketball head coach Woody Beard is retiring from education in Alabama and will teach at South Pittsburg (Tenn.) next school year. The Pisgah alum coached the PHS boys basketball team for 23 years before coaching the past four years at Woodville.

Woodville’s Mason Jones scored 41 points and tied an AHSAA record for 3-pointers in a quarter with six during Woodville’s 104-61 win tonight at Gaylesville. Jones made 13 3-pointers in all, tying him for fifth-most in a single game according to the AHSAA’s online records.

The Woodville boys basketball team defeats Athens Bible 70-61, is first team in Jackson County, boys or girls, to reach the 20-win mark this season. The Class 1A No. 7-ranked Panthers are now 20-5.

As of today, there will be no games played tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17th in the Jackson County Basketball Tournament. A meeting will be held tomorrow (Wed.) to decide if the tournament is able to be completed. No varsity games have been played to date. @theclarionpaper
