🚨 Health Secretary Wes Streeting has confirmed today that the Mental Health Investment Standard (MHIS) will stay.
We are hugely relieved and grateful that the government has listened to calls from across the mental health sector to protect mental health funding.

Am growing increasingly concerned that the government is about to take a backward step on mental health which will do further damage to its standing and more importantly damage care for people in need. The mental health sector was desperate for a change of government because services were in such a state but if the rumoured dropping of the Mental Health Investment Standard is confirmed it will feel like a kick in the teeth to so many. Mental health waiting lists were not in last week’s Plan for Change, which set alarm bells ringing. Mental health accounts for a fifth of the U.K. disease burden with less than 10pc of funding. If MHIS is axed, funding share is likely to fall as demand rises. I can’t see how this fits with the “hospital to community, prevention rather than cure” planks of @wesstreeting strategy, the parity between mental and physical health promised in the manifesto, or the commitment to get economically inactive people into work. It doesn’t make sense and I hope it does not happen.
🚨 Let that sink in. People are less likely to seek the support they need because of stigma.
Things shouldn't be this way. #LetsRethink

Great short ad. Glad it is going out on national TV from today. But also download the @Rethink_ guide on the issues it raises, with practical advice on how better to understand mental illness. #LetsRethink
When we’ve asked people living with mental illness about their experiences of stigma, the responses have been heart-breaking.
This is why we’ve launched this campaign. Please help us to end the judgement.
Living with a mental illness can be hard.
The negative attitudes of others makes it harder.
That's why we're launching our new anti-stigma campaign, #LetsRethink.

In entirely predictable news, I’m SO excited for the Paralympics.
Good luck to everyone @ParalympicsGB who will have been working so hard to make this Games a success 🥇
🧵 THREAD (1/5)
Lately, we've seen opinion pieces in national newspapers that criticise mental health awareness.
We've also noticed the dismissal of so-called "liberal" approaches to supporting people severely affected by mental illness to live and thrive in their communities.
🤔 "Bunions mean you're more likely to have a split personality"
Mate, that's just not true. So why do people believe it when it comes to #schizophrenia?
We've had enough of the misconceptions. It's time people learn the truth about schizophrenia.

Hard to put into words just how horrifying it is that “conservative estimates” suggest 1 in 12 women will be victims of VAWG every year, with fastest-growing groups of offenders/victims aged 16-19.
The need for concerted action to tackle this is clear.

Huge day for mental health campaigners!
Lots of work still to do, but a huge step towards badly needed reform of legislation that matters to all of us.
🚨 This is really important news 🚨
The government has included the Mental Health Bill in today’s King’s Speech.
🎉 After years of campaigning, this is the first step towards a new Mental Health Act.

💭 For #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we asked you to tell us 1️⃣ thing you want the world to know about living with mental illness.
Hundreds of you responded.

“She hasn’t lost a battle, she wasn’t in a fight and she certainly wouldn’t want you to see her death as tragic. She was simply living.”
What an incredible person. Thinking of everyone in the @CoppaFeelPeople family today 💕. Kris will be so missed.

Genuinely moving to learn about Raymond’s connection to our work and understand the impact this legacy will have.
I was lucky enough to see some of his illustrations yesterday and they’re still magical! 💫
💙 A truly special legacy.
We're deeply grateful to share that treasured author and illustrator Raymond Briggs has left a gift that will help us to support thousands of people living with mental illness.

I really regret going back to work repeatedly when I was too mentally ill to do so and then letting colleagues down, often in a very messy and last minute fashion. I was desperate to be well and back working effectively but funnily enough my recovery was not linear and I couldn’t just talk myself back in.
