All know that a strong America is the best ally of peace—the world’s avaricious dictators of Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are hesitant to invade and brutalize in the face of 1) American strength and 2) American resolve. Our tepid response to Russia’s invasion of Georgia and Crimea surely contributed to Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.

American resolve is greatest when we stand with the victims of oppression and invasion. After Russia invaded Ukraine with hundreds of tanks and hundreds of thousands of troops, America - together with Europe - rallied to give Ukraine the weapons and aid to defend itself. Three years later, Russia continues its brutal assault. We must not let personal squabbles weaken our resolve to stand with the freedom fighters and to oppose the authoritarian aggressors.
Lasting peace will only be achieved if America demonstrates strength and resolve and if Ukraine is certain that it will not be invaded again. Anything short of that would elicit only temporary celebration; it would open the door to global conflicts that we may be unable to contain.

Trump is transactional so he can quickly change policies to calm the markets. I hope he does. However, if he really wants 25% tariffs with Canada and Mexico, the markets could truly turn ugly. A recession & a 20% market drop would be ugly for the out years budgets.

WV Dems need to ask the Morrisey budget people & Finance chairmen what a 10% drop in the state’s equities would mean for future years’ budgets. While I hope this doesn’t happen, given the equities markets’ last 2 days, it is a possibility.

In 2023, Canada was the largest importer of US beef. If Canada retaliates with agricultural tariffs on beef & poultry what is going to be the impact on WV farmers? A large negative impact could hurt multiple counties.

Democrats in the WV Leg need to be asking about Trump’s planned take over of the USPS. What impact will it have? The USPS is essential to rural WV. Ds also need to be asking whether the feds cutting Medicaid will further expand the medical/hospital deserts in rural WV.

The WSJ has an article on Trump taking over Post Office. Trump has talked about privatizing USPS. The WV press should question impact on WV. Would rates go up for rural areas? Would the Charleston sorting center close? Would Saturday deliveries end? Gov & Capito views?

I continue to see a few Ds say the new WV Gov is from NJ. Just self defeating. Ds need to hold down the Rs advantage in the EP if they ever expect to win a statewide race. A large % of EP voters did not grow up in WV. Criticizing the new Gov tells them they do not belong here.
