On Jeremy Vine’s Channel 5 show today, during a heated debate titled “Belfast Riots: Is Elon Musk to Blame?”, journalist Mike Parry delivered some straight-talking truth.

Discussing the fallout from a horrific stabbing in north Belfast, captured in graphic video that spread rapidly online, Parry cut through the political spin that the government wants social media to censor such content “in times of crisis.” As Parry put it:

“What they really mean is, please don’t show pictures of this horrific incident.”

He nailed it. When politicians rush to blame social media for “inflaming tensions” after such crimes, it’s rarely about protecting the public. It’s about censorship and controlling the narrative by suppressing uncomfortable visuals and facts.

Parry went further, defending Elon Musk’s role in highlighting these issues:

“Elon Musk is raising questions in this country which our MPs should be raising about the way society is reacting to a massive influx of people.”

When another guest interrupted and called Elon “a massive bully,” Parry pushed back immediately:

“He’s not to me. I’m grateful to anybody who observes British society and points out some huge failings in the way this country is run, in the way it’s going, in the way ‘diversity is our strength’ is being manipulated to change the values of our country.”

Well said, Mike. We should all be grateful that voices like Elon Musk and platforms like X exist. Without them, governments and legacy media would likely cover up or downplay these incidents, leaving the public in the dark.

They attack X so fiercely because it’s one of the last places where unfiltered news flows freely and genuine free speech still exists.

In an age of managed narratives, that makes it dangerous to the establishment and invaluable to the rest of us.
