For those who keep telling BYU students “if you don’t like the honor code then go to a different school,” all I have to say is: please inform yourself.

We love BYU. We appreciate the guidance of an honor code. We ARE upset at how maliciously the HCO treats its students.

@SportsBros @restorehonorbyu I think you’re right, maybe it is still a little vague. And I think that’s where a lot of the misconceptions are happening. Also, news reports are focusing it on the honor code when that’s not it at all. I totally see how that’s frustrating!

@SportsBros @restorehonorbyu So personally, that chant I heard when I was there was “let gays stay” because there have been many students who have come out as gay and have been kicked out of BYU simply for that, not for acting on it at all. They also have been treated to become “ungay” at the HCO.

@TherealMikeC32 I think it’s fair to say that most of us, even when we try our best, will not be perfect for the 4-5+ years we spend at BYU. We should not live in fear to repent to our bishops if we want to change. And at the HCO there should be punishment, but there shouldn’t be any abuse.

@SportsBros I would look at the pinned tweet on the @restorehonorbyu page! No intention of changing church doctrine, the honor code, or anything like that. We simply hope to reform the honor code office to make it a safe place even when being punished for breaking the honor code.

@SportsBros It should be enforced. Actions have consequences. There just have been a lot of cases in which students who broke it (or were innocent) were treated awfully. I just want to ensure that the honor code office aligns with Christ.
