[PETITION]: The city of Cape Town has approved a data centre to be built right next to low-income communities that struggle to access water and electricity.

Data centres require water and electricity constantly; they are always thirsty, and now people in these communities will have to share their scarce resources with machines. What is even more disrespectful is the fact that people in these communities were not consulted about this. The government decided on its own. They want to prioritise big tech businesses over the interests of people in low-income communities.

Right now, the affected communities are demanding that the City of Cape Town stop all proposed data centre development applications and conduct public consultations with them until their concerns are addressed.
