the pride flag I wear is to let patients who are LGBTQ (a group that has faced discrimination and disparities in healthcare) know that they are safe to be themselves with me as their doctor
it’s not “political” to want your patients to feel safe when it comes to their health
I am desperate to remind people that it's not that "US style culture wars just popped up in Canada", it's that trans people have been telling you for literal years that this shit was here and no one took us very seriously.
If what happened in Canada today had happened three years ago, I may have chosen not to come out of the closet...
For those who are where I was three years ago (just arrived at my own self-acceptance) and all trans siblings, young and old:
✓ You are seen
✓ You are not alone
✓ You are loved
✓ You will make it
✓ You matter
✓ Your story matters

School must be a place where all students, staff and families belong and feel safe, and where respect is shown for each other’s differences. It has been upsetting to see misinformation and disinformation used to attack some of our most vulnerable children and youth.

Starting to strongly believe that we are using the word cancer the wrong way. People do not get cancer, they get /a/ cancer. Cancer is not a disease the way that "virus" is not a disease. Cancer is a way disease happens. The diseases are "cancers", not "cancer."
Imagine, as a 16 year old, struggling with a debilitating medical issue that makes every day hard to cope with, and it’s illegal for your doctor to prescribe you the medication you need.
That’s what the CPC policy, if enacted, would do to trans youth.
88,803 more people died than expected in Canada (excess deaths) from Jan 25/20 to May 5/23.
Nearly double the deaths of WWII or the 1918-20 flu pandemic.
Today @bmj_latest launched a series explaining why Canada's COVID response should be investigated.

A reminder: the birth dose of vitamin K is NOT a vaccine but is still critical to give within the first 6 hours following birth.
Here is why refusing this intervention is a really bad idea 🧵
Happy Pride Month! Please wear a mask if you’re going to a crowded event this month, both to make things more accessible for disabled and chronically ill LGBTQIA peeps & for your own safety #CovidIsNotOver 🏳️🌈
Given what just happened in Missouri, it is critical that trans people ensure they have long term access to their medical care today. Stockpile your medication, form community networks. What is happening in Missouri is what they want to happen nationwide.
VCH remains silent as they did nothing to provide warmth and care over the weekend, and little to enhance access to medication (incl. opioid agonist therapy in an overdose crisis), to people forcibly displaced by the police & city #vanpoli

About 1 in every 12 people is infected...yes, we've checked and rechecked this number.
We are very concerned about the lack of access for journalists and media covering the encampment in Vancouver.
Journalists need to be able to do their jobs and hold the police and the city accountable.
For Trans Day of Visibility, I’ve released almost all the queer and trans photos I’ve colorized/restored in one place! Check out some incredible moments from our community’s history going back to the 1890s at https://t.co/tAg5YkIFeb
