Protecting the most vulnerable: Children in agriculture, domestic work & conflict areas. @MugoyaMusa , Program Manager Business and Human Rights Program @ISERUganda notes that elimination of child labour will require multistrategies;
1. Ensuring that schools implementing Universal Primary Education & Universal Secondary Education are well equipped with the necessary infrastructure, instructional materials & teaching staff and ensuring that they are free from non - tuition fees that are prohibiting access.
2. Introduction of cash transfer programs targeting vulnerable households with school going age.
3. Progressively reduce informality in the agricultural sector by undertaking phased registration of farmers.
4. Reform the tax exemptions framework by providing percentage corporate income tax benefits to factories and industries that eliminate child labour & other human rights abuses in their supply chains.
5. Introduce & implement specific tax measures geared towards mobilising funds for implementation of child social protection initiatives.
6. Make it mandatory for businesses to undertake mandatory due diligence in their respective supply chains to address human rights abuses such as child labour.

.@NakulimaSaphina Programs Director @ISERUganda in her welcoming remarks thanked various stakeholders especially officials from the District Local Governments of Bugiri, Bugweri, Hoima and Kikuube in the implementation of the child labour project that has undertaken capacity building, community mobilisation and sensitization, rescuing children from child labour and reintergrating them back into school. She has also equally appreciated @EnabelinUganda & @EUinUG for the funding & support from other partners @Mglsd_UG, @UHRC_UGANDA, @EOC_UG, @RRightsAfrica, @UccaUg. #WDACL2026
Mr. Kalanda Ismail @Mglsd_UG: The Government has facilitated the Child Labour Unit of the Ministry through an annual investment of UGX 2 billion in every financial year. This has enabled us to undertake several initiatives towards elimination of child labour. #WDACL2026
.@NakulimaSaphina Programs Director @ISERUganda calls upon stakeholders to ;
- Protect every child by ensuring they are in classrooms, not workplaces.
- Support families so poverty does not force them to sacrifice their children’s future.
- Strengthen enforcement so exploitation is not tolerated in any form.
- Champion access to quality public education because it is the surest path out of poverty and into dignity.
@EnabelinUganda@EUinUG ##WDACL2026
In partnership with the @Mglsd_UG we are holding a National dialogue on elimination of child labour in Uganda. This is part of the activities for the commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labour on 12th June. #EndChildLabour2026#WDACL2026@EnabelinUganda@EUinUG
Ms. Judith Auma on behalf of @Mglsd_UG: This dialogue acts as a forum for accountability and dialogue. We will commit to sustainable reforms towards eliminating child labour. The dialogue should review the implementation of the Marrakech Framework for Action against Child Labour and strategies for financing actions towards elimination of child labour @EnabelinUganda@EUinUG #EndChildLabour2026 #WDACL2026
.@anabwowe: A strong contract help government to increase tax to pay for government services. It strengthens the link between governments & the people. For the countries that we admire, after world war II, they elected progressive leaders whose priorities established public services including schemes such as universal old age pensions & child benefits. #CPS2026AndBeyond.
.@CSBAGUGANDA has convened a discussion on Child and Social Protection Financing FY2026 & Beyond, we are joined by a diverse informed panel including;
➡️Janat Nankya - Senior Economist @mofpedU
➡️Angella Kasule Nabwowe - Executive Director @ISERUganda
➡️Patrick Katabazi - Member of @Parliament_Ug Rukiga County Elect
#CSP2026AndBeyond
.@anabwowe on how to finance #SocialProtection: International Labour Organisation estimates that the cost of achieving universal coverage in Sub - Saharan Africa would require 5.2 of the GDP on average including 1.8 of GDP to provide benefits to children;
- Zambia, Mongolia & Bolvia introduced taxes on mining & gas.
- Ghana & Indonesia cut fuel subsidies.
- Algeria, Mauritius & Panama increased taxes on tobacco.
For Uganda, fighting corruption, tax evasion & reducing unnecessary tax exemptions can go a long way in financing social protection #CPS2026AndBeyond.
.@anabwowe: @ISERUganda advocates for the implementation of social protection as a life cycle. Considering the risks that human beings, we seek to advocate for social protection as a human right #CPS2026AndBeyond
.@anabwowe: Financing social protection is not a cost to be differed, reliable returns are available to any government. Cash transfers strengthen household income & increase access to services. It is estimated that every $15 in child transfer the return investment is $19 for each $1 invested.Across Sub - Saharan Africa (Niger, Rwanda, Uganda & Mozambique) failing to provide adequate nutrition support to children under 2 years has been found to cost an equivalent of nearly 3% of GDP in foregone adult productivity as children who did not receive what they needed in the earlier years enters the workforce less able to learn, earn & contribute fully to their economies. #CSP2026AndBeyond
.@anabwowe: Social protection is a beneficiary system that steps in when people are most vulnerable when in childhood, old age, disability. Majority of the social protection global spending is estimated to be going towards old age pensions at 55% while benefits for children at 9.1%. The rising cost of living is making it harder for parents to provide for children in the years that matter most. When parents cannot afford access to childcare, quality healthcare & preprimary education, the consequences fall first & hardest on the youngest children in ways that are costly to reverse. The cost doesn't disappear, it accumulates quietly and is carried by economies for decades.
.@katabaazi25: If we don't arrest the vulnerabilities at the earliest time possible, we cannot talk about sovereignty. When it comes to Social Protection, @Parliament_Ug has four major roles; legislative, appropriation, oversight & representation. We have to ensure that #SocialProtection reflects in the core roles of Parliament. Additionally, we need a comprehensive approach to #SocialProtection. We need to design a comprehensive national framework. The financing and implementation can be gradual, but we need to be sure of where we are going. #CSP2026AndBeyond
We are taking part in the 11th Uganda's Oil & Gas Conference. Our partner @EnabelinUganda convened a panel discussion on Business & Human Rights: From complaints to solutions; experiences of management mechanisms in Uganda's oil & gas. The panel presented an opportunity for @EACOP_ & @PAU_Uganda to share their respective grievance settlement mechanisms. Also, @UHRC_UGANDA & @ASF_NGO
shared experiences on the grievance settlement mechanisms in the oil & gas based on the voices from grassroots especially in regard to land compensation.
Additionally, the discussion underscored the importance of businesses putting human rights at the centre of their projects implementation especially the effective & efficient grievance mechanisms. This is becuase resolving business related disputes in their earlier stages is better & cheaper than delaying them. This builds trust in the entity's grievance settlement mechanisms.
We are pleased to host our members to the General Assembly, where we are sharing our plans for the year and enhance the organisational capacity through engaging sessions. #GeneralAssembly26#CapacityBuilding
