Imtiaz Ali's #MainVaapasAaunga took me to my paternal grandmother, who spent a lifetime cooking Pindi chana and Bhusri (gud ki roti), yearning for the home she never saw again. She was 14 when she left Jhang, now in Pakistan’s Punjab, and travelled to India with my grandfather, the teenager neighbour she was engaged to, and his family. Just before she passed, about eight years ago, she kept telling her children to make sure that her ashes are not immersed in the Ganga. If she couldn’t go home when she was alive, she wanted to be there at least in death. Like my grandfather before her, her remains were also immersed in the Sutlej... It was the closest either of them came to crossing the border again. And perhaps, in the language of rivers rather than nations, they finally did go home

It’s absolutely barbaric.

NEET videos are heartbreaking because they don’t account for kids traveling by public transport (maybe multiple buses or trains) that are always delayed in India

Israel killed Mona Khalil in South Lebanon.

On June 6, they dropped a bomb on her home in Mansouri — flattening it.

Mona, an environmental activist, dedicated her life to protecting endangered sea turtles along Lebanon’s coast.

She died of her injuries today.

Would like to know what is corporate India willing to do to support 3 children? How much maternity leave are you willing to give? How much support to a young family, how much time off for the dad, what support for education? It is all very well to say people should have more children but the average work place actually discriminates against women who get pregnant, does not think men should be given time to be with families and actually creates a culture discouraging people from having families. So many cases of women being unfairly dismissed when they get pregnant or soon after they return from maternity leave even though it is illegal by citing some issue or the other.

One of the most common questions corporates ask anyone beyond the age of 27 in interviews is if they are getting married anytime soon and if they are married whether they are planning a child soon. Often people are rejected from jobs for saying yes to any of the above as corporates want someone who can dedicate their full time to the job without what they consider 'distractions'.

So perhaps the policy changes should come from corporate India. With your influence, you could perhaps convince the likes of Naryanamurthy or SN Subrahmanyan to consider supporting work life balance and decent pay, which is the essential cornerstone of family life.

You say in your essay that to have more children, we must give up more. My question is how much is corporate India ready to give up so that society can have more children?

As a parent, I can't even begin to imagine the pain this grieving father and the boy's mother must be feeling. It would break me completely. I think I would literally lose my mind.

Do not get used to Palestinian children being killed.

There is nothing normal about a child being murdered.

Translation : Marital rape in India is apparently a necessity for men’s mental health.

A woman’s body whether recovering from surgery, healing from childbirth, torn open and stitched back together, is still LEGALLY required to be available.

A wife with pelvic floor repair? Available.

A wife with recurring infections because he won’t let her heal from the last one? Available.

A wife whose BV keeps returning because her husband’s bacteria keeps reinfecting her? Available.

A wife who simply doesn’t want to? Also available. Because apparently that’s not a reason (enough or at all). That’s a crime.

The court looked at a woman’s post-surgical body, her infected body, her exhausted body, her body that just said no and only saw a husband’s inconvenience.

They didn’t rule on his cruelty. They ruled on hers.

Her body is not a marital asset. But Indian law, just like Indian men hasn’t evolved.
