@kayteterry I'd suggest working on humanizing language in the last part of your sentence. As an abolitionist myself, the words "prisoners" and "slaves" are dehumanizing. People are incarcerated and being enslaved. Humans are more than their circumstances.

@zellieimani For more context, the police first arrive globally in Europe during the transition from feudalism to capitalism. They were put in place to protect property, specifically rich peoples property, and to criminalize vagrancy. Work for the rich or go to jail essentially.
