FCT Police Parade Man for Allegedly Chaining Sister Years
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has paraded a 48-year-old man, Chinedu Aniekuoko, from Anambra State, for allegedly chaining and confining his 36-year-old sister, Grace Aniekuoku, under inhumane conditions in Abuja.
According to the police, operatives attached to the Katampe Division rescued the victim following a distress call from concerned residents.
The command disclosed that officers forced entry into a residential property where they found Grace in a severely emaciated state, allegedly chained inside a room and living under unsanitary conditions.
Police authorities said the victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for urgent treatment due to her deteriorating health condition.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
The police also revealed that investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the victim's son, who was reportedly taken to an unknown location about two years ago.
According to the command, efforts are ongoing to trace the child and determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over domestic abuse and the treatment of vulnerable persons within families and communities.
Meanwhile, reports circulating on social media alleged that the victim had been chained for up to four years following a dispute over a cement business jointly operated with her brother. The reports further claimed that the suspect declared his sister mentally unstable in order to deny her access to her share of the business.
However, the FCT Police Command has yet to officially confirm those claims.
Police authorities urged members of the public to promptly report cases of abuse, unlawful confinement, and other suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that timely intervention can help prevent prolonged suffering and protect vulnerable individuals.
The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
