@ecohugger Overall it was good! I learned a lot especially with some concepts new to me from literature and performing arts but I definitely struggled with some things through it. I wouldn't call it an easy read but I still enjoyed it for the most part

Forgot to tweet for June, we read Defiant Indigeneity by Stephanie Teves for book club. This month we are reading Being Salmon Being Human by Martin Lee Mueller. It's 288p and would need to read about 12p a day to finish by the 28th for our virtual meeting. DM if you want to Join

I'm thinking of starting a book club to help me read/reread books that I keep passing over or putting down for "more pressing" things. Does not have to be these exact books but focusing on Indigenous works (mainly Hawaiian works here). Anyone interested?

For the conference, presenters have been recognizing Indigenous peoples as knowledge holders and caretakers of the land. BUT where are we? Where are the Indigenous scientists or Indigenous partners, why aren’t they in the room? There’s maybe 2 others I suspect as Indigenous…

There was a land acknowledgment but it was recorded. Why not invite (and pay) Indigenous peoples of place to tell their stories instead of a recorded acknowledgment and let them and their community engage in this conference for free so they can participate in their own home

I haven’t presented yet so we’ll see how that goes but these spaces are not accommodating for Indigenous knowledge and peoples. Conference and gathering organizers I urge you to take these into consideration in the future

I’m in a plenary talk at a conservation conference. I got excited because they talked about needing to recognize history but it’s just colonizer history and absolutely no recognition of Indigenous peoples and past and continued harms. Just past idolization…

Book club is reading Everything Ancient Was Once New for April. If you want to read it this month and start today (Apr 3) it is 110 pages (without the notes/bibliography/index) and you would need to read about 4-5p a day. We will meet virtually Apr 28th. DM me if you want to join

I've seen a lot of pregnant women lately wearing lei poʻo but not wearing lei or having open lei. I'm confused wouldn't a lei poʻo (closed/tied going over the head) still have the same implications as a lei or am I missing something? Anyone have any answers?
