I roulette er princippet enkelt: Man placerer sin indsats, kuglen sættes i bevægelse, og så håber man, at den lander det rigtige sted.

Min tidligere kollega @SofieRud har i denne uge valgt en mere avanceret variant, hvor hun spiller rudsisk roulette med troværdigheden som indsats.

Lad mig begynde med det personlige, fordi det ikke er uvæsentligt i denne sammenhæng:

Jeg har intet dårligt at sige om Sofie Rud som menneske. Vi har gennem flere år siddet sammen i studiet som paneldeltagere i TV 2 News-magasinet ”Kampen om USA”.

Det har været både fornøjeligt og behageligt, men det handler ikke om det personlige. Men om det principielle. Og principper bliver først for alvor interessante, når man ser, om de også gælder mennesker, man kender og godt kan lide.

Hvis man vælger at arbejde som politisk rådgiver for den amerikanske ambassade, vælger man at legitimere en administration, der aktivt arbejder på at destabilisere Kongeriget Danmark. Mere kompliceret er det sådan set ikke.

Sofie arbejder nu for den diplomatiske repræsentation for en nation og administration, der har truet Danmark økonomisk, udfordret rigsfællesskabets territoriale integritet og nægtet at respektere grønlændernes gentagne nej til at blive amerikanere. Derfor er kritikken både forudsigelig og legitim.

Samtidig viser et hurtigt blik på LinkedIn og de øvrige sociale medier, at medie- og konsulentbranchen har en noget anden tilgang til den slags jobskifter end den gennemsnitlige dansker.

På LinkedIn er der en klar overvægt af hjertelige lykønskninger og rygklapperi fra folk i mediebranchen, mens kommentarsporene på andre sociale medier er overvejende negative.

Også det fortæller os noget om afstanden mellem den fjerde statsmagt og det samfund, som mediebranchen er sat i verden for at beskrive.

Man forstår det jo godt. For mange almindelige danskere er det intuitivt mærkeligt, at en journalist og kommentator, som konsekvent har kritiseret Trump-administrationens udenrigspolitiske ageren, vælger at skifte side og træde ind i det diplomatiske apparat, der skal fremme samme administrations interesser.

Sådan ser man tilsyneladende ikke på tingene i mediebranchen. Her betragtes den slags jobskifter efterhånden som en helt naturlig karriereudvikling.

Journalister bliver særlige rådgivere og pressechefer, hvorefter de vender tilbage som redaktionschefer, værter eller kommentatorer. Det samme gælder tidligere politikere, som bevæger sig den modsatte vej.

Skåret ind til benet er vi vidne til en amerikanisering af den danske mediebranche, hvor svingdøren mellem journalistik, politik og diplomati snurrer stadig hurtigere.

Det korte af det lange er, at Sofie har truffet et karrierevalg, som det selvfølgelig står hende frit for at træffe. Offentligheden er lige så meget i sin gode ret til at vurdere, om jobskiftet falder i god jord eller skader hendes renommé.

Det er trods alt den indsats, man lægger på bordet, når man beslutter sig for at spille rudsisk roulette med troværdigheden.

Other lies about Ukraine:

No, Zelensky hasn't banned "opposition parties". He has banned certain opposition parties because they are openly pro-Russian. Britain banned the British Union of Fascists during WW2 in exactly the same way. America went further and rounded up Japanese Americans and threw them into internment camps.

No, Zelensky hasn't suspended "independent media". He has suspended pro-Russian media. Even Orwell, arguably the greatest defender of free speech of the 20th century, acknowledged the need for state restrictions on media during war. The idea that in WW2 we would allow pro-enemy propaganda on our airwaves is absurd.

There are many legitimate criticisms to be made of the way this war came about, the way both the Ukrainian and Western leadership have behaved and the failure to end this war when it became clear that Ukraine had done its best and lost.

But the spectacle of people sitting in warmth, comfort and plenty lying and misrepresenting a country and a people who are courageously fighting to defend their land against a bully is sickening and people who engage in this should be deeply ashamed.

They won't, of course, because to most of them the war in Ukraine isn't a real thing. It's just a topic for online click farming. The only silver lining is we're really finding out who's who.
