ALPENGLOW is coming to Solana. ποΈ
Solana is preparing for one of the biggest changes to its consensus architecture since launch.
Alpenglow is designed to replace TowerBFT and target ~150ms finality β down from ~12.8 seconds today.
The feature gate activates on public testnet today, marking the next major step toward bringing Alpenglow to mainnet.
Faster finality. A new consensus era.
This is Alpenglow.

The Alpenglow feature gate activates on testnet tomorrow.
Feature gate flips at epoch 1042, ~17:30 UTC Thursday Sept 24, starting a 5,000 slot countdown. ~17 minutes later, Alpenglow takes over.
We'll post when countdown starts and when Alpenglow is officially running. β±οΈ
Tomorrow we cover the Alpenglow migration and answer your questions in the replies.

We might have some alpha to share... π
ALPENGLOW IS GETTING CLOSER TO MAINNET.
Testnet: LIVE β
Devnet: LIVE β
Mainnet: NEXT β³
Solanaβs new consensus protocol is now running across both public testing networks.
The target: ~150ms finality.
From ~12.8 seconds to a fraction of a second.
The Alpenglow handoff required validators representing 82% of stake to agree on the genesis point.
Once that certificate formed, consensus could be handed over to Votor.
Thousands of validators.
One agreed starting point.
Alpenglow Genesis. ποΈ
Testnet was never the destination.
It's the first mountain.
Testnet β Devnet β Mainnet-beta
Every successful stage takes Alpenglow closer to becoming part of Solana itself.
The climb continues. ποΈ
Alpenglow isn't only changing consensus.
Consensus votes have moved off-chain on testnet.
That means those votes no longer need to compete for the same blockspace as user transactions.
Sometimes improvement is about removing what doesn't need to be there. ποΈ
One of the biggest changes is happening behind the scenes.
With Alpenglow, consensus votes are exchanged directly between validators instead of being included in blocks.
The way Solana reaches agreement has changed on testnet.
Yesterday Alpenglow was something Solana was preparing for.
Today, it's running on testnet.
Next comes observation, Devnet, and eventually Mainnet-beta.
The theory is becoming infrastructure. ποΈ
Testnet β
Next stop: Devnet.
Then comes the road toward Mainnet-beta.
Alpenglow is no longer just something being researched or discussed β the new consensus system is now running on a public Solana cluster.
One milestone at a time. ποΈ
A piece of Solana history happened today. ποΈ
On testnet, TowerBFT has officially handed consensus over to Votor.
The old system retired. The new one producing finality.
Now we get to watch Alpenglow prove itself before the journey continues to Devnet and Mainnet-beta.
This is only the beginning. ποΈ
Alpenglow is officially running on testnet. TowerBFT has been retired there, Votor is live, and consensus votes have moved off-chain.
Next: Devnet. Then Mainnet-beta.

Alpenglow is officially running on testnet β°οΈ
The handoff completed at slot 444625255: Alpenglow genesis block formed and TowerBFT is retired.Β
Testnet now finalizes with Votor and votes have entirely moved off-chain.
Devnet is next. Mainnet-beta after our observation period.
This isn't a second Solana.
No new chain.
No token migration.
Consensus is handed from TowerBFT to Alpenglow on the live network.
One network. A new consensus era. ποΈ
No second chain.
No parallel consensus network.
No token migration.
Alpenglow is designed to take over consensus on the existing Solana network.
That handoff is what makes this transition so interesting. ποΈ
The Alpenglow feature gate is active on testnet. The 5,000 slot countdown is running, ~17 minutes to the migration boundary.
At the boundary: validators confirm the final TowerBFT block at 82% of stake, then Votor takes over on testnet.
Alpenglow testnet genesis block incoming.
The final countdown begins. ποΈ
Alpenglow is expected to go live on Solana testnet between 19:30β19:50 CEST.
Years of research and development are approaching another major milestone.
First light is almost here.
