@kristoncapps@GuillermoMena You might be thinking of this meaning it will be a PUD. That lets people sue. That's not what this question was asking, it was asking if it's 100% exempted from any zoning. You can still have zoning and pass a MOR zoning rule so the actual housing requires no FURTHER zoning.
@kristoncapps@GuillermoMena Why 10 years? The team isn't even about to build housing at all. JLG's team meets with the Commanders, agrees on what to build, submits a zoning amendment that makes it matter of right to do that specific thing, done - approved MOR well before they even want to build anything.
@kristoncapps If both they and the city have a point to negotiate over, where they will get profit but the city gets a say, that's going to make it a lot better.
It doesn't have to be slow zoning. JLG has committed to make it fast, but I don't think we should give up all leverage.
@kristoncapps I don't know, I think what this says is totally true - with zero city involvement I don't really trust the owners to even do the housing at all. What if they decide to build a few small houses and a lot of big parking lots for their stadium?
Very excited to see @capitalweather striking out on their own. Subscribe to support them!
Also this is a periodic reminder to support local media which are actually making a commitment to local news, like @51stnews & @CityCast_DC; looking forward to The Star (or whatever name)
There was a proposal to build this 9 years ago: @tweetelissa wanted to redirect funds from subsidizing parking in Union Market for this. @kenyanmcduffie opposed it.
Elissa and Kenyan are on the ballot this month. This is indicative of their priorities.

The @NiskanenCenter has an absolutely fascinating new report on policing and crime in D.C. It questions how many cops D.C. needs (and what they should be doing), and finds that the National Guard did help bring down some crime – but not in a cost-effective way.
Yglesias: "she does not believe in privately financed construction... Her entire vision... is that it should be 'social housing.'"
JLG: "Our housing supply challenges, however, are bigger than what we can solve via subsidy alone. I’m pursuing an all-of-the-above strategy"
Yglesias: JLG "has never reconciled herself to the realities of privately financed housing development"
JLG: "When I was first elected... I wasn’t certain about the role private development should play. Since then... I’ve embraced the fact that cities that build temper costs."
Yglesias: "Lewis George... simply does not see the sprouting of [Navy Yard, the Wharf, and Noma] as a success"
JLG: "My predecessors undertook innovative planning and economic development efforts, like the transformation of NoMa and the Anacostia waterfront"
Lmao a photo of a bike in the background will be the closest Mcduffie will come to even acknowledging the existence of non car transportation.
He will be terrible on policy but at least he posted a photo of himself driving past a bike.
@Cincinnatus_DC DSA decides whatever they want, I’m not involved because I’m not in DSA. I look at the candidates and see what they are saying themselves. I’m still just genuinely confused about whether you are trying to talk about the mayor’s race or at large or what - so I can try to answer
This mailer, like the earlier McDuffie one, distorts what’s going on and uses at best racially coded language to mislead. https://t.co/jYX32utoRo
I like @LisaJRaymond (and also @repoyedc) and would like if she’d clarify she doesn’t agree with discredited crime demagoguery.
@AlexKomaDC Did you see this doozy for Lisa Raymond by ABC Metro Washington and Building Victories IEC.
The out of town billionaires crying crocodile tears for the people of DC's safety while they rob us of our land.
::yawn::
@andrewdefrank@ScottGoldstein She also called me after this tweet and further disavowed the way this mailer (mis)represents her stance on public safety.
@Cincinnatus_DC The NIMBYs are desperately supporting McDuffie but I haven't argued he's a NIMBY because I don't think he is. (I think he might get squishy about specific things when opposition crops up, much more than Janeese would, though I can't promise Janeese won't ever do that.)
