Today, exactly 21 months after @OmarAbdullah promised to resolve the RESERVATION issue within 6 months, the victims of Reservation Apartheid are back on the streets. Because that promise was never kept.

We were promised justice in 6 months. We waited for 21 months. And what did we get? Nothing but silence, delay, and a sub-committee report that you are too scared to make public.

When 70% of our youth are forced to fight for just 30% of seats, where is their future? An entire generation is being pushed into depression and hopelessness. You have turned their degrees into worthless pieces of paper and their dreams into nightmares

The maximum educational qualification prescribed in the recent JKSSB notification for the recruitment of Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker posts has disappointed thousands of job aspirants who have pursued higher education.

JKSSB has fixed 10+2 as the maximum qualification for these posts. This simply means that candidates who have studied beyond 10+2 will not be eligible to apply.

What message is the Government sending to our educated youth? Is the government disincentivising higher education? That too at a time when we are already witnessing a decline in college admissions for past few academic sessions. Putting maximum qualification bar on jobs will further send discouraging message to young people pursuing higher education.

It is completely illogical to tell an educated young person that being more qualified makes him or her less eligible for a government job.

Those responsible for making such policies must understand that behind every degree and qualification is a young person who has spent years of hard work, time and family resources on education. Such candidates should not be penalised simply because they have studied beyond the prescribed level.

I strongly urge the Government to immediately reconsider and remove the maximum educational qualification criterion from the notification and provide equal opportunity to all.

If the existing recruitment rules stand in the way of removing this restriction, the Government must amend the rules without delay.

OPEN MERIT STUDENTS ON THE VERGE OF BECOMING AN “EXTINCT SPECIES”?

Yesterday, I felt hopeful seeing so many young students and aspirants openly speaking about merit, fairness and rationalisation of reservation. For a long time, many of us remained silent. But the voice is now growing—and it deserves to be heard.

We are not against reservation. We believe in social justice and equal opportunity. But every system must evolve with time. Rationalisation of reservation in Jammu & Kashmir is the need of the hour so that merit, representation and fairness can coexist.

We earnestly request the Hon’ble Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah Ji and Hon’ble Minister for Education @sakinaitoo Ji to look into this matter with seriousness and initiate a meaningful review of the existing system.

Our youth should not be forced to choose between merit and justice. Jammu & Kashmir needs a system that protects the disadvantaged while also ensuring that merit and hard work are not pushed to the margins.

We are also thankful to PDP Patron Mehbooba Mufti Ji for providing us a platform to raise issues concerning merit and the aspirations of our youth.

This is not a fight against anyone.
This is a call for fairness.
This is a call for rationalisation.
This is a call for the future of our youth.
