I am very excited about the grid 🍱
It not only makes Universal Profiles 🆙 useful, beyond collecting assets.

But it finally allows you as a DApp developers to build mini-apps. Forget about onboarding, landing pages or account management.

All you need todo is build a simple JS app that only has the interface to your smart contracts, and people can put this under their profile. Or cloned from other profiles.

Any visitor will be connected with a click of a button 🟢 to your mini-app.

Yes that’s the idea behind a connect system. That should be a new standard. And it should be built so generic that it can allow all of these things.

Subscriptions/gating/messaging based on a connection.

So yes, this should be a new standard that we can discus. I already have some notes and ideas myself.

The follower system standard is not upgradable, otherwise we could arbitrarily change it and remove anyone’s followers. That goes against the idea of decentralization.

Your proposal fits more to a future connect/friend system. Here the receiver should have a say. This system then could be used for friends/subscription or also who belongs to an organization.
Especially when we introduce the idea of “channels” that different connect channels can exist.

The follows system was on purpose kept simple as it’s just that “a follower system”

What does following mean?
It means you are interested. In the activity of a certain account or address.

This is not something the followed one can prevent. As your acuity on chain is in any case public and follow able. Hence while a blocking and unfollow would be purely cosmetical. Anyone could build an indexer and follow you anyhow.

Hence why none of these things were added to this system.

It’s different for a friend system, as being “connected” can mean many different things in different apps.

This is a discussion we already started internally. But didn’t get the time yet to propose an actual standard for it.

2. Onchain Reputation
This is soon possible to by anyone to invent any reputation protocol that you simply reference/attach to your UniversalProfile (🆙).
I have an idea of a score based system that allow you to "mint" reputation to other 🆙's based on your own reputation score.
But ANY data can be attached to a 🆙, not like ENS, where its off-chain and limited to what ENS came up with.

3. Onchain Ads
🆙can receive graffiti, which will be a great place to advertise, if you have a famous profile that many people look at. And you can monetise it 😉. All purely smart contract based.

4. Onchain Capital Formation
Again🆙's, which can also be DAOs - run by identifiable🆙of stakeholders. And now you can have proper decentralized funds, that are even more transparent.

5. Job / Task Marketplace
🆙again: If you have a persistent long lasting blockchain address with a face and reputation, that's a full on-chain account/wallet/profile. Its your gateway to the global job opportunity and even the receiver of compensations...

8. Onchain Games
And🆙can easily be controlled from a game, without any assets that need to move to a new "wallet", meaning you are online, on-chain and in-game with the same profile... (If you wish)

10. Tools for Network States
Another one for🆙: Network states will never happen without the participants being identifiable and trustable.🆙are exactly what's needed for those blockchain based network states to occur.

Universal Profiles are the 3rd column that the Blockchain space has been missing:
Identity (ERC725/LSP0)
(Fun fact: I have also authored the 1st one: Tokens [ERC20] and out of it came the second one NFTs [ERC721]. I got a✋for this 😄)

And this is not another, @civickey, @3boxlabs, or other pieces of an identity solution.

It is the Blockchain Account of the future itself! (Think of it as AA on steriods; also ERC4337 compatible btw)
