The Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation and the NPA’s Asset Forfeiture Unit have secured a High Court forfeiture order for seven trucks worth more than R7 million linked to an alleged illegal chrome mining operation in North West.
The trucks were seized in July 2025 after police found them carrying 36 tonnes of chrome without the required mining permits.
Seven suspects face illegal mining charges and are due back in the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court on 11 August 2026.
Authorities have welcomed the forfeiture order as a significant step in tackling illegal mining.
