Senator Babet Urges Australians to Stand Against Digital Surveillance

Senator Babet is calling on all freedom loving Australians to sign a petition demanding a Senate inquiry into the powers of the eSafety Commissioner and the creeping digital surveillance agenda threatening our civil liberties.

“The government says it’s about protecting kids but what they’re really building is a surveillance state, which could include such things as facial recognition, ID checks and biometric scans. This is not safety; this is authoritarianism wrapped in a friendly name," Senator Babet said.

The latest move by the eSafety Commissioner will require age assurance for logged-in search engine users. This is yet another step towards total online control.

“This isn’t just about Google or YouTube. It’s about the principle: should the government and Big Tech potentially have the power to track everything you search say and do online? As that is the direction we are heading in," he said.

The Senator is seeking support from the Liberal/National parties the Australian Greens and the cross bench in the next sitting of Parliament to launch an official Senate inquiry.

“We’ve beaten bad legislation before. When the Misinformation and Disinformation Bill threatened free speech Australians stood up and we won. That victory wasn’t handed to us. It happened because we raised our voices, signed petitions and demanded accountability. We can do it again. But I need you to get behind me. Let’s repeat that victory and send a clear message to Canberra, we will not surrender our privacy our freedom or our future.

“I can’t do this without you. I need your voice. Sign the petition and contact your Senators. Tell them to support this inquiry,” Senator Babet said.

The Australian government has been taken to court by an internet personality known as "Billboard Chris," who challenged the nation’s "eSafety" commission’s authority to geo-block a tweet criticizing the appointment of an Australian transgender activist to a World Health Organization board.

Police in Brisbane have used force to remove me from a public street, but declined to press charges.

I don’t think they want an international incident on their hands.

This all happened because a bylaw officer lied and said I was obstructing people’s movement in a public square.

All I did, as usual for the past 4.5 years, was stand quietly by myself in the corner of the square, having conversations only with those who approach me.

He told me to move and I refused because I know my rights. I’m on a public street and I can have conversations.

He then issued me an $806 fine. I gladly accepted it. He ordered me to move again. I again declined. Then the police came. They debated for about 45 minutes what to do with me, before eventually saying I would be arrested and charged if I refused to move.

I could not agree to their terms with a clear conscience. I refuse to accept zealous abuse of power by those in authority, simply because I’m peacefully spreading a true message that vulnerable children are being maimed, sterilized, and turned into lifelong pharmaceutical patients.

I opted not to violate my integrity, so they physically removed me. I believe they know what they’re doing is wrong, which is why they then opted not to formally arrest and charge me.
