Thru the whole Iraq War, CBI Governor Sinan Shabibi kept Iraq's dinar stable at ~1150 per USD. Maliki/Iran wanted to raid Iraq's currency reserves, so Maliki fabricated charges & sacked him in 2012. Now after a long post-Shabibi slide the dinar has crashed to > 1600 per USD. 1/4

@ylecun How does it feel to have a role in those effects on society? Even if they are small they still exist, it’s a shame seeing all this intelligence wasted on pointless platforms like the one you work for.

A good thread to read by @AliOzheb on biography of late Dr Sinan Al-Shibibi. His most notable achievement was establishing the independence of the CBI. He was ousted by former PM Maliki for his firm standing on CBI’s independency on monetary policies.

@ylecun @LucaAmb So again it’s not FB’a fault but the user. Do you see the issue here? FB’s algorithms places the content in front if the user, but it’s not FB’s fault if the user clicks on it. After all the documented scandals at FB, sticking by the company is pretty jarring. FB isn’t the victim

@ylecun @LucaAmb You keep saying that but the fact is that that is exactly what is happening. Leaked documents claim the exact opposite of what you say. All evidence points to FB needing the outrage to keep engagement high.
