Today we're proud to launch our latest Class of 2035 Report, warning that unless urgent action is taken to increase physical activity among children, this generation will face poorer health, lower happiness and reduced life chances over the next decade and beyond. 📈
Furthermore, by 2035, if current trends continue:
· Almost half (48%) of children will spend three hours or more on screens for entertainment each day, up from 34% in 2025.
· More than a third (34%) will fail to be active for even 30 minutes a day, well short of the UK’s Chief Medical Officers’ guidance of 60 active minutes. · Obesity and mental health disorders are projected to increase significantly, with more than 180,000 children (24%) classified as clinically obese by 2035.
· Annual Type 2 diabetes diagnoses in children will double, reaching 500 new cases each year.
· Schools will see declining attendance, engagement, and belonging among the least active pupils.
It's clear that we need to take urgent action to ensure that these statistics don't become a reality for future generations.

@broadbentfoldpe@YouthSportTrust We are so pleased that you are part of @YouthSportTrust Advocacy Network! Thank you for attending today. Thank you for your valuable input and sharing the great practice at Broadbent Fold. You are real champions in ensuring every child has the opportunity to be physical active 👏🏻
Alongside our friends over at @afPE_PE, we have welcomed the publication of the Curriculum and Assessment Review’s final report and the Government’s response to the recommendations, calling for today to turn the page on a new chapter for Physical Education (PE), school sport and play. 🙌
“Movement has a central role in cognitive development and performance, physical activity is essential to health and wellbeing, while play and sport are invaluable contexts for social development and the acquisition of life skills. Today’s announcements respond to our call - PE and school sport are not optional extras, they must serve the needs of every child," @AliOliverYST, Youth Sport Trust CEO. ❤️
As a children's charity, we welcome this response and look forward to seeing the positive changes that will happen as a result.

We're incredibly excited to share the news that four-time Olympic and six-time World Champion, @Mo_Farah CBE, will be joining us as our new Youth Sport Trust National School Sport Champion!🏆
Mo shares our mission and passion to use the power of sport within schools to support young people to live happier and healthier lives. 🙌
When asked about Mo's mission and his goal as National School Sport Champion, this is what Mo had to say 👇
"In my new role as National School Sport Champion, it is my mission to get as many young people moving on a daily basis as possible. The power of sport helped me find my passion as a young person, so I’m firmly encouraging kids across the UK to get involved in ‘60 minutes a day - of PE, Sport and Play.”
