I'm struggling to put it into my own words but I think Anne Applebaum's description of what motivates autocracies might contain the seeds of an explanation, at least in part.

@SA__moment This was an excellent thread. IIRC he gave an interview to cbc and managed to keep a straight face while saying he thought it resonated with people because it was different (or something along those lines).
@kmcphillips I do this whenever I find myself thinking “I’m still going to be cringing at myself over this 15 years from now,” even if it means more short term awkwardness. It’s always worth it.
@konval I find it’s best to put them in Lightroom (with NAS storage) and then never look at them or share them ever. Or at least that’s what my actions suggest I believe is best…
