I started reading the Qur’an out of curiosity. This has to be the worst book I’ve ever read in my entire life.

A multi-thread rant.

It quite literally reads as if an AI from 2023 had been instructed to generate sacred scripture. Constant repetition, endless abstraction, declarations presented as arguments, and the same handful of conclusions restated without development.

What makes this ridiculous is that the Qur’an congratulates itself for being clear, detailed and perfectly explained.

It describes itself in Qur’an 41:3–5:

“A Book whose verses have been explained in detail—an Arabic recitation for a people who know—bringing good news and warning. Yet most of them turn away, and so they do not hear. They say, ‘Our hearts are covered against that to which you call us, deafness is in our ears, and between us and you is a barrier. So act; we too are acting.’”

Qur’an 12:111 goes further:

“Certainly, in their stories there is a lesson for those who possess understanding. It is not an invented account, but a confirmation of what came before it, a detailed explanation of everything, and guidance and mercy for a people who believe.”

That claim is comical once the book is actually read.

There is very little sustained argument, narrative progression, psychological depth, character development or conceptual movement. Stories will appear abruptly, disappear abruptly, and return hundreds of verses later in another compressed fragment.

Figures inherited from the Bible are never developed as human beings. They are reduced to demonstrations of a single repetitive formula: a prophet speaks, wicked men reject him, God vindicates him. Muhammad is now speaking, men are rejecting him, therefore Muhammad must also be a prophet and his opponents must be wicked.

Surah 26 may be the clearest example. Noah introduces himself by saying:

“The people of Noah denied the messengers when their brother Noah said to them, ‘Will you not fear? I am a trustworthy messenger sent to you. Therefore fear Allah and obey me. I ask you for no payment for this; my reward belongs only to the Lord of all worlds. Therefore fear Allah and obey me.’”

The same speech is then placed into the mouths of Hud, Salih, Lot and Shuʿayb with barely any alteration.

Each announces that he is a trustworthy messenger, orders his people to fear Allah and obey him, and declares that he asks no payment. Each population rejects its messenger.

Each story then ends with virtually the same two verses:

“Certainly there is a sign in that, yet most of them were not believers. And certainly your Lord—He is the Mighty, the Merciful.”

Then again:

“Certainly there is a sign in that, yet most of them were not believers. And certainly your Lord—He is the Mighty, the Merciful.”
—Qur’an 26:139–140

Then again:

“Certainly there is a sign in that, yet most of them were not believers. And certainly your Lord—He is the Mighty, the Merciful.”

This is horrible. It’s just a template being rerun with different names inserted. The characters change, the content does not. Nothing accumulates and nothing deepens.

These stories exist only to manufacture precedents for Muhammad. Every former prophet demanded obedience, every former prophet was rejected, and therefore rejection of Muhammad proves that he belongs among them.
