Anyway, the most hilarious things abt it is his delusion that there’s a Big Archaeology cartel withholding the truth.
As if archaeologists would ever be able to agree or cooperate on something beside toxic peer review 😂 Nah
there is a huge gap between individual thinking & exceptionalism. archaeology needs the former, but the latter just breeds ppl who show up every day looking to tip things over for attention. it’s toxic and boring, not fiery & catalytic. Independent research is an absolute driver
This week, many of us are meeting in person to run a session at a big archaeology conference. To accompany this session, we'll be tweeting tips on Everyday Anarchism for Archaeologists (E. A. A.). Comrades and fellow-travellers, please feel free to add your own #EAA2022
It’s that time of year again: don’t go to the @SAAorg conference! Don’t give them your money, time, scholarship or legitimize them in any way through participation. You don’t need them to get a job or to have your research heard. They’ve shown us who they are - believe it.
Hello @SAAorg, this is a respectful request for a public response to queries around the increased fee for conference attendance. Why are the fees higher? Can you help us understand? If so, it might alleviate some of the understandably negative reactions from younger members.
Conferences can’t be free for a lot of reasons- nobody would mind investing if there was value being given in return and a reasonable price for what’s on offer. Why are these prices so high?! Transparency on the budget absolutely essential to rescue this/explain it.
Hello all - we are hearing multiple (unconfirmed) reports that the IFR did not issue refunds for the 2020 fieldschools cancelled because of COVID. Can anyone confirm? This is important!
@potatokitty Yup, thanks. Accessibility is a big issue with WAC, and they don’t have a digital offer for those that can’t attend every 4 years. Feeling like something more connected and accessible is important.
Genuine question: is there any national or international archaeological organisation that is providing meaningful leadership for it’s members right now? Everything we have seen are special interest, regional, local etc.(by the way - great job all!) we want to BELONG TO SOMETHING
First order of business for the archaeology rebel alliance: ALL ARCHAEOLOGISTS ARE WELCOME. Yes, you too in the back. Academia does not rule here. Field techs don’t get to be the most archaeologyish. Museum and lab folk, come on up. Outreach and comms, roll in. Who did we miss?
