@JustinSchiffer6@CMWhitburnD3 Raised crosswalks would make a huge improvement and are on the wish list. Also looking at bulb outs and painted intersection.
Local business owners (Grand Ole BBQ, Santos Coffee, Thorn Brewing, Headbang Salon) met with @CMWhitburnD3 Whitburn to discuss pedestrian safety improvements at known dangerous intersection 32nd and Thorn. Love Whitburn’s personal commitment to safe streets!
@jlatchhh@ob_cycler@CMWhitburnD3@MayorToddGloria Good idea, but won’t work. SDPD has already told us they are understaffed and can’t do traffic enforcement. Camera enforcement would work but there’s no political will to impede drivers.
Check out the drivers blowing the stop signs in one 10 min span yesterday afternoon. It's like this all day, every day. This is a 4-way stop in the middle of a residential area with kids everywhere. 33rd & Redwood. @SanDiegoPD
Glanced out the window as a speeding driver completely blew the 4-way stop at 33rd and Redwood. Kid on bike was a few seconds away from being hit. His mom was completely shaken, and I came out and told her ppl do this all day, every day, and to be extra careful.
@ob_cycler@SanDiegoPD Me too. I'm honestly astonished at how little regard drivers have for the safety of kids. The entitlement they feel to put everyone at risk so they can get somewhere a *little faster* is appalling.
@corpusnovus@SanDiegoPD@StephenWhitburn The problem isn't budget, it's headcount. SDPD is understaffed, so they don't have resources for traffic enforcement. One officer told me straight up never to expect a patrol car in our area, and he was right.
@corpusnovus@SanDiegoPD@StephenWhitburn We’ve asked, but @SanDiegoPD is under resourced and can’t do traffic enforcement. Seems word is out. I’m worried it’s just a matter of time before a kid gets ran over.
I honestly think it would be safer if every single stop sign in the city was removed, and drivers were forced to approach each intersection with a little fear. Not fear for others, of course, but fear that they might hurt their car.
