@SStricklandMMA I hadn’t heard this before this week, but a lot of fighters were paid bonuses in Trump cryptocurrency. Seems a little odd to me… why not regular US Dollars for the 250th anniversary?

@heynottheface@lthomasnews I wonder if Jones could leverage the fact that Dana said he is retired. If Jon still wants to fight but the UFC won’t offer him any fights? I know UFC contracts are generally airtight, but something has to give.
@benfowlkesMMA I’ve had Google Gemini make up entire government policy changes and breaking news. I was so interested I went to various news websites, then government sites. Nothing… AI was writing complete fiction.
@JedKMeshew So are you saying they are thinking about having 125 as the heaviest weight class for women? I understand getting rid of 145, but I feel like there must be some skilled women fighters who just couldn’t make 125. Maybe I’m wrong, though.
@DamonMartin Netflix and MVP were smart to get the biggest names possible for their first MMA event. If they can convert a few % of the casuals who watched that event to regulars, that would be a good base to build from.
Of course, I don’t see how they can beat the numbers in the 2nd event.
@benfowlkesMMA@Grabaka_Hitman I had to cover my eyes a little when the Rousey fight started. Regardless of how you feel about Carano, I didn’t want to see her get hurt.
@lthomasnews I’m not familiar with the arena, but was there attendance or gate reported? It looked pretty empty to me.
I thought the production and pacing was great for a newer promotion. Commentators and desk did fine. The card was more geared towards casual fans who’d recognize the names.
@TheoVon Everyone has an opinion about what meditation people should take… like they know better than the person and their doctor.
Didn’t Rogan suggest vitamins and jogging as a way to fight off COVID-19? He’s so obviously anti-pharma I don’t know why they’re surprised about this take.
@lthomasnews I agree, if this card fails to pull viewers AND the PFL can’t generate momentum, it’s a bad sign for the sport.
In that case it’s likely a combination of a shrinking fan base and Zuffa/TKO killed off all other promotions over the years to the point the public equates UFC = MMA.
@MikeHeck_JR I agree - having the sport introduced to an audience that otherwise would never have seen it is a good thing.
Legitimate competition amongst promoters can only help fighters.
As they say, the rising tide lifts all boats.
@M_Johnston1@hrw The CCP have helped place expats in all levels of Canadian gov.
Jump to the ruling party. Create a viral clip grilling officials about lack of proof of forced labor. Forward the clip, apologize quietly later.
Same thing happened last month in Vancouver.

@JedKMeshew The whole video goes against everything I know about Jon and DC. How are they interacting so well and helping each other? I didn’t detect any malice between them. Must be before their first fight.
@SpencerHakimian I didn’t expect Bryan Callen to be knowledgeable about this. To educate Joe is commendable. I don’t know what happened to Joe the past 10 years, but it’s a lot.
Joe to Guest (probably): I don’t want to talk, I’m getting angry, I’ve researched this, you disagree with me, Stop!
@TrentReinsmith@eugeneSrobinson I won’t say the behavior is endemic in MMA, but it comes up regularly with no consequences for the accused. Some popular fighters who were accused (not arrested or found guilty): Mike Perry, Anthony Johnson, Jon Jones, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Jamahal Hill, Nick Diaz, Travis Brown.
@benfowlkesMMA It’s true. Getting out of a UFC contract and being free and clear is very difficult. It likely would be less work and stress if he stuck with the promotion he’s been with for so many years. But he was right to gamble on finding something better.
@lthomasnews It’s true - if you piss off the UFC then there will consequences. The UFC probably thinks they lost money because putting on MMA fights is their thing. And the UFC has a very long memory… just ask Randy Couture or Tito Ortiz.
