To everyone currently having a meltdown, my apologies in advance. This is a little long, but I figured a bit of context might help before the narrative gets rewritten again. 😆
So let me get this straight. You say there was a “connection,” and then you say they had to “beg.” If there was already a connection, why would begging even be necessary? Which narrative are we going with? 😂
The article itself makes it clear that the Live Nation connection did not automatically get SB19 into Lollapalooza. Ms. Rhiza Pascua explicitly said Lollapalooza is very strict about its brand, that they conducted their own due diligence, and that SB19 were not getting in simply because she was part of Live Nation. She even waited four months for their decision.
And if you insist on calling her advocacy “begging,” then what exactly do you make of the outcome? After SB19 performed, the president of Lollapalooza called Ms. Pascua again because they wanted SB19 for other Lollapalooza shows in South America and India. Then Live Nation Global expressed interest in working with SB19 and doing tours with them.
If SB19 supposedly needed to be “begged” into being wanted, why did the people running the festival come back asking for more? 😂
And are we really going to reduce Lollapalooza’s decision to someone simply begging them to take an artist?
That is actually insulting Lollapalooza’s own professional judgment. They evaluated SB19, gave them a stage, watched them perform, and then decided they wanted more. That is not charity. That is a professional decision based on what they saw.
A pitch can open a door. Advocacy can create an opportunity. But neither can manufacture the kind of response SB19 received after they actually performed. The performance had to deliver. The artistry had to speak. The audience had to respond. And clearly, something about SB19 made Lollapalooza want more.
So yes, acknowledge Ms. Pascua for fighting for the opportunity. But don't rewrite the story as though SB19 was carried onto that stage by connections or pity. The connection may have opened the conversation. Ms. Pascua may have fought for the opportunity. But SB19's own talent and performance are what turned that opportunity into a bigger one. 😊
