A thing that I'm noticing is that people who have not experimented much or at all with chatbots have already—in a time frame measured in months—lost the ability to discern text that is entirely AI-generated.

Suddenly, very smart and "with it" people are being as easily bamboozled as a grandma with a new Facebook page because they are similarly operating in an ecosystem for which they have no preparation or context.

There is a clear and obvious erosion of media literacy—and also just straight up literacy—correlated with the adoption of chatbots. But what is striking to me is that the refusal to adopt chatbots is ✨also✨ creating a new form of rapid-onset media illiteracy even among those who have opted out.
