Does anyone in the #mtbos#iteachmath world work regularly with an ELA or history teacher to deliver integrated lessons? I really want to start piloting this at my school and would love to chat!
I haven't sent a tweet since the fall (thanks pandemic teaching!) But I have to say CONGRATULATIONS to all the #interagencygraywolves graduating today. Its been quite a year.
@anniek_p@DenaSimmons Thank you for this. We used a version as a jumping off point this morning and I was blown away by my students' reflections/questions/interactions and really appreciated the option for students to engage how they needed to this morning.
“Leading the legendary Media Lab is a dream for me, and I can’t wait to help write the next chapter of this uniquely creative, impactful, compassionate community.” We’re thrilled to announce that @DavaExplorer will be the new director of the MIT Media Lab! https://t.co/rAOs4KOuv7
And a call to action from @Mathcharts on addressing the reality that our Black students face in the unjust educational system we work in by promoting an affirming classroom full of joy, trust and empathetic connections. I am lucky to work with her!
I am in an all day online math PD. I am both super excited/refreshed at hearing from my amazing peers AND so overwhelmed/tired of learning through a screen. Such a good reminder of what our students are dealing with on a daily basis. #iteachmath#mtbos#SPSmath
Highlights include "Healing Math Trauma Through Family Engagement" from the always powerful @ESMathTeacher If you teach math (or really anything) you should know/follow her.
I have neglected twitter since remote education! I am so tired of staring at my computer, but it also seems like the perfect time to jump in and learn/share ALL the new things.
@carloliwitter I’m super slow, but our free student lunch/breakfast are all individually packaged often with multiple packages per meal. And since they deliver from offsite, there is often food waste when low attendance or food students don’t like #makemathjust
Magical Ms. Micaela never gets old! Student reactions are always over the top excited and then they dig right in to figuring out how to prove with expressions. #bridgetocollegemath
Ideally there would be great schools in every neighborhood but the reality is that SoC often have to choose btw commutes and good schools; if they even get the choice. I think it would be interesting to explore how Seattle fared under bussing and possible future initiatives 2/2
I want to be careful saying that long commutes are necessarily bad though, b/c they definitely affect our SoC more now, but also used by white ppl to oppose bussing and shorter commutes to struggling schools aren’t the answer. 1/2 #makemathjust
If they find any better routes/connection ideas we’ll draft and send a letter to transit office. It might be interesting to compare their commutes to another school if we can partner and get good data.
I’m late, but thinking about having students create a map of all the different routes they take to school along with average commute time.have them look for patterns, gaps of service, etc. also compare projected times versus actual times and how often buses late #makemathjust
