The piece is oak, carved on all four sides and painted on the lid. There is also a bespoke piece of bevelled glass that sits perfectly on the lid to protect the artwork.

New theory that the carvings may be his work, with Crane responsible for the artwork.

Entrance to the Manchester School Of Art (recent image), and the Textile Court on the top floor around 1900.
Both as Crane would have seen them during his time there from 1893.
The carvings on the box show similarities.

@providenceluvr Massive ego yes, but scenery (lesser seen areas of places visited), left wing viewpoints of political factoids about said visited places, excellent grub and generally lovely people in every episode make it, for me at least, very sexy escapism for best part of an hour.
