When selecting a lab, prioritize #mentoring. A good mentor will invest in your success & will be committed to provide you with the space/resources/training/network for you to thrive. Other key factors ➡️funding/pub/group dynamic. Find the lab that will make you feel part of it.
Yes. #PUI#STEM faculty - consider including ‘draft personal statement’ etc. as part of 2nd year coursework Applying can be overwhelming and Scaffolding in the pieces students need for these applications is super important @alvinsanch @cristufer13
As a grad student it is essential that u take ownership of your career/training & identify mentors who will support u. It's normal to feel a bit lost & alone as u traverse the many challenges of the PhD. The imp thing is not to let those hardships bring u down & to ask for help.
Choosing a #PhD#mentor is one of the hardest decisions you have to make. As you ponder this decision, it is imp to remember that a good mentor is not only the one who you get along w/ but someone who also challenges/guides/supports you as you prepare for & pick your career path.

My advisor just tried to make a Twitter account for my lab, declared the labs birthday was 2015, then promptly got locked out of the account since the minimum age requirement for Twitter is 13. A fun experiment while it lasted.
