Nuclear was different. Congress created the Atomic Energy Commission in 1946, a decade before the first commercial nuclear plant opened.

I view AI safety as urgent as nuclear safety. A federal agency should have existed before AI went commercial.

We should not adjourn in September until Speaker Johnson gives us a vote on a bill to create an AI safety agency.

I left home to run an errand in the Al-Mawasi area, leaving behind my daughter Rafif, my wife, and my family.

Everything was calm and stable… but in a single moment, everything changed.

Suddenly, heavy gunfire, shelling, and the destruction of buildings began.
I could no longer return home or reach my family because of the intense gunfire.
I was forced to stay somewhere safe, far away from them, while my wife, my daughter Rafif, and my family managed to take shelter on the lower floor of my aunt’s house.

Those moments were incredibly difficult… being far away from your daughter and family, not knowing what might happen in the next moment.

Thank God, after all that fear, I was finally able to return, and I am now beside Rafif and my family. 🤍

All we ask is to make it through this night safely and remain together. 🙏💔

Yemen is the poorest country in the world—starved, bombed, brutalized by US-Israel-Saudi coalition. But they remained unbroken, defiant, and rebellious, insisting on their dignity.

They refused the bribes, money, and material comforts empire dangled to make them sell their souls.

Liberation is not material comfort. It’s not a seat at empire’s cruel table. Liberation is this—sovereignty, dignity, being masters of your own fate, the authors of your own story and destiny, and, most importantly the kind of alliance with the oppressed that ties your freedom to theirs.

The Free People of Yemen had every opportunity to capitulate to empire, avoid bombing and hunger, receive some material comforts, get folded into the global banking system, the global extractive order. Instead, they chose to stand with Palestine, to reject genocide, and fight powers vastly more powerful than them.

Today they are triumphant.
