Minister says that in light of the "devastating, awful" Couzens case it is "perfectly reasonable for somebody to seek verification about an officer's bona fides".

He was a bona fide, card carrying policeman. The guy wasn't impersonating an officer - he actually was one.

I mean, really, maybe the best way to deal with this is double crewing and for officers to operate to a standard protocol so the public know what professional policing looks like.
