Trucking industry insiders are sounding the alarm about the dangers posed by a flood of foreign drivers, mainly from India, causing chaos on Australian roads.
Complaints range from uninsured and unroadworthy trucks driven by unskilled and unqualified drivers to forged defect notices and refusal to follow road rules.
There are also reports of foreign-owned trucking companies using rental fleets to avoid regulations, and then using truck stops as depots, meaning local drivers have no place to park and take their mandatory breaks.
