Odysseus isn’t bowing to a superior, they’re both kings in their own right. What actually binds him is a promise made long before the war, the Oath of Tyndareus, sworn by every suitor of Helen to protect her marriage no matter who she married. Agamemnon becomes leader through influence and family ties, not authority over Odysseus.

This gets misunderstood constantly because it looks like a hierarchy, it isn’t one. Odysseus is obligated by an oath he made himself years earlier, not by loyalty to a higher king. Agamemnon simply organizes the war, he never actually rules over Odysseus.
