@whynothomer @BladeoftheS Nope, owned by rolls Royce, Airbus, Babcock and cobham. Makes perfect sense really, we’re in peacetime and don’t need the aircraft all the time so saves money. I’d personally love for us to own all equipment but that’s not always the most financially viable.

🚨 Since 2000, the UK's military personnel have seen a substantial reduction:

🔻 British Army: Down by 29.79% (from 109,600 to 76,950)
🔻 Royal Navy & Royal Marines: Down by 23.86% (from 42,800 to 32,590)
🔻 Royal Air Force: Down by 41.50% (from 54,600 to 31,940)

The figures, disclosed in a parliamentary written question by MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun, @AlanBrownSNP, and answered by Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Ministry of Defence, Andrew Murrison, paint a concerning picture of the diminishing size of the UK's forces.

Looking at the year ahead, what should be the British Army's Five 2024 investment priorities? Put simply they should be as follows:
1⃣ People: this is recruiting, training, developing and rewarding the soldiers who make the Army what it is. It requires the Army's career offer to be improved so that it is a route to a second career beyond it. It's about basing and infrastructure that's fit for purpose. At the moment, we're losing people faster than we can replace them.
2⃣ Vehicles: these are building blocks of capability that support C4I and weapon systems. Having the right mix of platforms is essential for the Army to deployable within an expeditionary context. Challenger 3 and MIV are well underway. LMP must gain momentum. We must start planning to replace Warrior - this is the only missing element of the portfolio.
3⃣ C4I / AI / ML: with the cancellation of EVO (the opening of the Bowman), we will now need to buy an open systems architecture off the shelf. We must absolutely get on with this to build effective sensor-to-effector kill chains. Luckily, there are plenty of options to choose from. We must also invest in AI and algorithmic systems that gives us an EW edge.
4⃣ Weapons systems: (a) loitering munitions; (b) military spec attritable UAS; (c) SHORAD / counter-UAS air defence cannon; (d) MRAD air defence roll-out of SkySabre; (e) 155 mm artillery; (f) G/ MLRS artillery; (g) Stockpiles of ammunition to support each system.
5⃣ Force design: Reconfiguration of the Regular Army into 2 war fighting divisions with 8 brigades, of which at least 5 should be readily deployable. An Army Reserve able to drive the rapid expansion of the Regular Army and able to provide specialist personnel.
Much of what is listed is already underway, the Army just doesn't talk about it. It needs more money, not to do more things, but simply to deliver what it already plans. We will not accelerate programme delivery without investing in DE&S personnel to bring new equipment into service.
Many of the good things going on will become apparent when project Wavell is finally published. Behind an encouraging set of emerging positive outcomes is an Army top leadership team that continues to get better.
