Unfortunately I see this all the time as a geriatrician practicing #HBPC. My homebound older adult patients with limited resources aren’t making it to specialist appointments and when forced to choose between food and electricity or their medications are making the obvious choice
New study finds that greater burden of unmet social needs was associated w/significantly ⬆️odds of no-show appts & medication non-adherence suggesting that social needs may impact health by limiting access to needed medical services. @amy_linsky https://t.co/3NNXpHWAzC
What happens when a room full of geriatricians gets fed up with ageism? We figure out how to teach it out of you! @RZChipMD@Megany221@RavRamaswamy#browynkeefe loved doing this with all of you! # AGS23
.@Penn_Geriatrics fellow Matthew VanDongen presenting on how we “snuck” geriatrics into a medical student transitions of care curriculum 🤫 #stealthgeriatrics#AGS23
It’s been so amazing to see the widespread adoption of this smart phrase to guide trainee geriatric assessments on our ACE unit @Penn_Geriatrics. Keep up the good work @eva_szy et al! #AGS23
…hopefully our healthcare system will figure out a way to better reward the hard work of those in these fields. But until then I’ll continue to love my specialty #geriatrics and encourage others to go into this field regardless!
It says a lot about our healthcare system that almost 3 years into a global pandemic disproportionately affecting older adults the least matched fellowships are geriatrics and infectious disease…
One guess which bar #Geriatrics is.
I would like to start a conversation about why Geriatrics is awesome and why amazing people choose to go into this.
I like older adults. I like stories. I'm super nosy and like to get into details a lot. Like, an astounding amount.
Fantastic grand rounds this morning featuring @LeeLindquistMD on how to help our seniors age in place! Great resource for our patients: https://t.co/8DkVJdX3n5
Thank you @gradydoctor for your reflections on the impact of hidden curriculums in your own training! Reflecting on my own experiences in training and how I may be impacting the trainees I work with #IMPennMedEd@PennIMResidents@Penn_Geriatrics
Had the privilege of teaching some brand new first year medical students today. Soaking in the new school year energy! Welcome to our new @PennMedicine students!
The population is aging - yet #ACGME ⬇️#geriatrics requirements for IM residents. We should enhance (not reduce!) geri ed, and find ways to do so without increasing trainee burden.
Thanks @RentschSamuel for your advocacy and leadership on this editorial

A request to hospital clinicians: if you have never worked in a SNF (skilled nursing facility), please be humble when telling patients what to expect when they go there.
It's OK to say you don't know.
