I once heard someone say “when you finally learn your place in people’s lives, your feelings won’t get hurt.” But I think the hardest part isn’t learning your place in someone’s life. It’s accepting that their place in yours was never the same. I had to learn that I wasn’t anyone’s first thought or favourite person. Not even with the people I thought would always be there for me. I realised I was giving people a level of love, effort, time and consideration that they simply weren’t giving back. And eventually, I stopped trying to force closeness that wasn’t naturally there. I stopped reaching out as much. I stopped making myself available to people who rarely made themselves available to me. I started matching the effort I received instead of constantly overextending myself just to feel connected. And yes, it’s lonely. I still have moments when I wish I had someone to call, someone to lean on, someone who would show up for me the way I would show up for them. But there’s a strange kind of peace in no longer spending time with people who make you feel alone while they’re standing right beside you. I may be lonely, but I’m no longer abandoning myself just to avoid feeling alone.
Forgive yourself for staying longer than you should have. You weren’t stupid for giving them another chance. You weren’t weak for holding on. You were simply hoping that your love would be enough to change what was hurting you. You believed the promises. You remembered the good moments. You saw the potential in them and kept hoping that if you were patient enough, understanding enough and loving enough, things would eventually become what you always wanted them to be. But love cannot change someone who doesn’t want to change. Forgive yourself for staying. You were only trying to save something you genuinely loved. Now you can finally choose to save yourself.
you don't get the same me twice. after you've hurt me I'm mentally done and tapped out i will never be the same. If I do stay it's out of love & even then you'll never get the same version of me again
It hurts when you realize you gave your time, energy, and genuine care to someone who was never worth the space you made for them. Sometimes I just sit back and wonder, why did I even let you into my life in the first place?
