Working for equitable & sustainable open source @ Bloomberg. Previous open at @opencollect @openstreetmap @openplans @mapzen @medialab. Opinions many & my own.
We are sad to inform our community that Marina Zhurakhinsakaya died from cancer on Saturday. @Outreachy wouldn't exist w/out her dedication, which continued until her last day. Later this week, we'll share our own remembrance & designate a place for others to post remembrances.
Maintainers @_sambhavkothari & @nataliea012 hit the stage at #KubeCon + #CloudNativeCon EU 2022 today (17:25 CEST/1:25 PM EDT) to unravel the magic that lifecycle - the binary at the heart of @buildpacks_io - uses to convert source code to OCI images
https://t.co/SqADwcoN69
Come join @NatalieA012 and me @KubeCon_ as we explore how various container build tools work, unravel how @buildpacks_io does builds without a docker daemon or root along with a live demo showing how to create a working container image using just tar, shasum and cat!

really amazing to hear the diversity of stories and voices. open source is a collaborative creation of technical innovation and a collective voice is ever more powerful and needed. #everythingisopensource

We're honored that @todogroup has profiled @Bloomberg's #OSPO as a model for how to implement #opensource initiatives within corporate environments (after speaking to @realkpfleming & @alyssapwright) in its new whitepaper: "The Evolution of the Open Source Program Office"

I need someone more organized than me who can get some things in order and help me adjust the project to the evolved landscape.
I'll pay market rates. 2/3
I have a side gig opportunity for someone who can spend 2-4 hours a week doing technical writing, scripting, and project management. They need to already understand the open source landscape.
Looking for your direct referral. DMs open.
More in the thread, pls read it. 1/3
@cra@CloudNativeFdn@TechAtBloomberg interesting idea — wondering though if things are that simple and % time can quantified. i suppose like many other things it’s a general (with some ambiguity) % number?
After more than two decades, the official wizard of Christchurch, New Zealand, has lost his job. He was believed to be the world's only wizard on a government payroll, paid $10,000 annually by the city for "acts of wizardry and other wizard-like services." https://t.co/AuUVRVGqIH
so many good quotes in the press release! “…the forced obsolescence of devices like TVs isn’t in the best interest of the consumer or even the planet. This is another aspect of what we mean by ‘ethical technology.’
This is a pretty big deal - it's an attempt to enforce the terms of the GPL without requiring that action be brought by the copyright holders. If successful, it means that anyone who buys a GPL-violating device could force the vendor to provide source (and potentially damages)
