After a certain age, your parents slowly become your children. They ask simple questions, repeat stories, and depend on your patience the way you once depended on theirs. Very few understand this role reversal. What looks like innocence or inconvenience is really time coming full circle. Don't correct them harshly. Don't rush them. Care for them the way they once protected you. This is not a burden. It is repayment.
Y’all its my high school reunion, and I gaslit my bully.
She starts giving me a laundry list of everything she did to me, why she did it, and how sorry she is. I mean… this stuff was really bad.
When she finally finishes, I go,
“I’m so sorry, sweetie. You have me confused with someone else.”

As your parents grow older, the roles quietly reverse. They begin asking the simplest questions, retelling the same stories, and leaning on your patience the same way you once leaned on theirs. Few people truly recognize this shift. What can feel like childlike behavior or an inconvenience is simply life completing its circle. Be gentle when they forget. Give them time. Look after them with the same steady care they once gave you. This is not a duty you endure it is the debt you repay.
“That’s cheating the company” — SO FUCKIN WHAT!? I don’t care about the company! I CARE ABOUT THE DRIVER!!!! We are ALL one paycheck from being homeless. My sympathy lies with THEM. Fuck Uber.
I saw a lady sharing that her man paid all the bills while she went to school and raised their kids. Now she's a registered nurse, and she's holding things down while he studies engineering. That's what partnership looks like.
The healer also needs healing. The planner also needs surprises. The giver also needs to receive. The thoughtful also needs to be thought of. The considerate also needs to be considered.
