@GreenTrolled @SueSuezep #2 that’s not how tax bands work. The relief applies up to £1.5m (on this example), so a farm worth £1.5m pays ZERO tax. A farm worth £2m (as in Dan Neidle’s example) would pay £100k IHT tax, ie, 20% of £500k.

@GreenTrolled @SueSuezep I think you’ve misunderstood two things. #1 Treasury isn’t inaccurate, their figures are different. The treasury is interested is how many farmers will *actually* be affected (i.e., farmers likely to die and so IHT will be due). NFU refer to all farms above a certain value.

@MichelleMone I think that you don’t understand at a basic level what tax advisors/lawyers do. A large part of it is the opposite of ‘tax avoidance’ advice. They advise what tax liabilities entities *do* have to ensure that those entities are compliant with the law.

@4lm4c3 @Quayt01 @HeshComps @HumansNoContext The point is that the order of operations, left to right, ALWAYS matters. Multiplication and division are equivalent operations. They are literally the same, ie \2 is the same as *0.5. It’s arbitrary, don’t let the notation get in the way of order.
6… /2… *3
=6.. *0.5.. *3
= 9

Consider this, to teach schoolchildren maths you have to come up with a mnemonic. Some use BODMAS, others PEMDAS. One letter has to come first, which is sadly misleading. It should really be P(E)(M/D)(A/S).

@jimseven The roast level aspect is the interesting part for me. How much caffeine is actually in the roasted bean? How significant is porosity? Maybe also it’s a solubility thing, e.g, if dark roasts contain less highly water-soluble compounds, caffeine would be more readily dissolved.
