La Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos ha señalado que la libertad de expresión constituye un pilar fundamental de las sociedades democráticas, al tiempo que ha reconocido la importancia de prevenir y combatir manifestaciones que puedan afectar la dignidad, la igualdad y los derechos de las personas, especialmente de aquellas que se encuentran en situaciones de vulnerabilidad.
