Throwback to Argentina first game at the World Cup when 3 of their goals were disallowed and they ended up losing 2-1
It wasn’t “rigged” for Messi then
De Jong is nearing thirty.
He joined Barcelona 8 years.
Do you think this is how he should be playing after so long and after that many years at Barcelona ?
I love De Jong and I think he has some qualities that are rare to find, but sometimes he can be annoying. He needs to understand the pace of the game better—when to move the ball fast and when to slow it down.
There are moments when he receives the ball, and instead of playing it forward quickly for attackers, he'd rather slow it down and do these meaningless turns.
For a player with his insane quality, at this age he should have understood all of this by now. Another thing is he's not daring enough to attack space, give final pass or try shooting from outside the box every once in a while. Being a DM doesn't mean you cant participate in attack and just be giving only sideways passes.
Van der Vaart has called him out on this several times, and he still doesn't try to improve these aspects of his game. I am sure this is the aspect of his game Hansi Flick also doesn’t like.
The answer is actually that Brazilian star players nowadays get sold to European clubs at too young an age, depriving them of the important development stage of jogo bonito and sexual depravity required for true Brazilian football excellence.
People complaining that World Cup match times don't fit their time zone is such a strange complaint. The tournament schedule is built around the host country, the players, and the fans attending the games, not viewers halfway across the world. As someone on the East Coast, I'll have plenty of late-night kickoffs too. That's just how time zones work. Football is a global sport; not every match will be scheduled around your convenience.
What gets me is how Europe-centric this complaint feels. Fans in Australia and countries across Asia have been waking up at ridiculous hours or staying up all night to watch major tournaments for years. That is part of following a global sport.
Plus, several matches are being played in the afternoon or early evening local time, when the heat is at its worst, specifically to make them more accessible for European audiences.
@FCB1mrankhan All of Portugal's midfielders come in top form + 2 are CL winners. Imo Ruiz is overrated. Rodri never recovered his pre-ACL level and Pedri is coming from an injury.
Not convinced with Spain tbh..
A 48 team world cup means it's virtually impossible for any medium-to-big sized NT to get grouped. The Germany/Spain/France upsets of previous editions will become unheard of basically.
