Today, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation @HMMohammedIdris was in Umuahia, Abia State, to attend the maiden edition of the South East Regional Security Summit 2026

In his remarks, he made that point that when every region of Nigeria enjoys peace, our democracy flourishes. A peaceful and united nation is one that cannot be overwhelmed or defeated by internal or external forces.

We stand together as one people, united by a common destiny, no force can diminish the promise of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We must also join hands, regardless of ethnic or political or religious affiliations, to tackle insecurity. Government has a very important role no doubt, but citizens, communities and civil society organisations also have a part to play, in supporting intelligence gathering, peace-building, and more.

President Tinubu’s administration is deeply committed to ensuring that communities across the South-East enjoy lasting peace, which will allow them to advance the enterprise and innovation they’re known for. Because security is the foundation for commerce, investment, and economic prosperity.

And we must not forget the media angle, how criminal elements are exploiting fake news, misinformation, disinformation and hate speech to
fuel division and insecurity across the country. We all have a role to play here, by paying more critical attention to what we share and amplify and believe, especially on social media.

The fight against insecurity in Nigeria is a winnable one, and we are daily demonstrating this through the gains being recorded on all security fronts, under the leadership of President Tinubu.

WHEN THE SOUTH-EAST IS SECURE, NIGERIA IS STRONGER- INFORMATION MINISTER

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that lasting peace and security in the South-East are critical to Nigeria's unity, economic growth and national development.

The Minister stated this on Thursday at the 2026 South-East Regional Security Summit held in Umuahia, Abia State.

"When the South-East is secure, Nigeria is stronger. When every region enjoys peace, our democracy flourishes. And when we stand together as one people, united by a common destiny, no force can diminish the promise of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," the Minister said.

Speaking on the theme, "Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability," Idris said security requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach involving governments, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society and citizens.

He reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to protecting lives and property through improved intelligence sharing, stronger inter-agency coordination, better equipment for security agencies and international partnerships. "The Federal Government remains fully committed to ensuring that every community across the South-East enjoys lasting peace and security. Security is the foundation for investment, education, agriculture and economic prosperity," he said.

The Minister also highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, digital skills and support for small businesses, describing them as critical components of the administration's security strategy.

He urged citizens to reject misinformation and support efforts to strengthen grassroots policing through ongoing constitutional reforms on State Police. "Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is the presence of justice, opportunity, inclusion and hope. Together, we must reject division and work to build communities founded on trust and shared prosperity," Idris stated.

Delivering the goodwill message of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Abdulaziz Musa Yar'Adua, said the National Assembly remains committed to providing the legislative support required to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture and promote lasting peace across the country.

He stressed that addressing insecurity requires strong partnerships among government, security agencies, traditional institutions, civil society and citizens. "No nation has ever secured itself through isolated efforts; security succeeds where partnerships flourish," he said, adding that the Senate would continue to support initiatives that enhance national unity, economic development and regional stability.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, called for stronger regional cooperation and institutional reforms to address evolving security challenges in the South-East. "The time has come to move from dialogue to implementation. Security cannot be achieved through force alone; it requires collaboration, community trust and collective responsibility," Kalu said. He reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to supporting legislative and constitutional reforms that will strengthen Nigeria's security architecture.

In his remarks, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, described security as the bedrock of development and prosperity, saying no meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. "We cannot afford to surrender this great land and its people to the forces of insecurity. Security is the foundation upon which all our hopes for development and prosperity rest," Governor Otti said.

I spent my entire university life at ABU Zaria hitting back to back first class GPA for 6 semesters in Political Science. My very first GPA was 4.79/5.00 which was the overall best in the whole faculty of social science consisting of over 600 students. I maintained it for almost my entire university life.
Unfortunately, In the first semester of my final year, my CGPA dropped to 4.47 exactly like you, with just one semester to go (see my pinnned tweet). I needed a 5.00 GPA in the final semester including research project to achieve my dream of graduating with a first class and breaking the record in a program that no one believed first class was possible. I was stuck between giving up to avoid last minute heartbreak or try to break a longstanding record as first class in political science was impossible for over 40years and hitting 5.00 CGPA in final semester was something students used to say only God could achieve. The two final year courses were enough hell, but I also needed ‘A’ in research project which further complicated things. Hundreds have tried, Hundreds have failed. People used to mock me in the library saying “haba scholar, in the end it’s just second class upper” just like those who tried before me.

However, I remained focused and locked in with hardwork and prayers. I had to travel twice to my village, stayed for weeks without electricity just to get data for my final year project. I stayed back in school during first semester holiday while everyone else went home to their families. During the dark days of no light on campus, I used ABU streetlights to study outside. Sometimes, I entered the bush behind the hostel to sit around trees to study during exams when libraries got overcrowded (until snake killed one old woman). Those who were close to me said I was going crazy and nicknamed me “books”.

Today, I am proud to tell you that I have a record breaking first class degree from ABU which has changed my life forever. I featured in several newspapers & blogs for achieving the impossible, bagged a fully funded EU scholarship which resulted in me bagging two more first class degrees from the UK & Netherlands and currently working as the only black Analyst in my team at a silicon valley tech giant with a less than 1% global job acceptance rate.

All these dreams were possible because I didn’t give up
I didn’t listen to people
I worked hard and prayed and the almighty lifted me in his blessings.
I hope my story motivates you and others like you who are considering giving up.

This week I visited the newly completed television studio of @NTANewsNow at the headquarters in Abuja. It is one of the best studios and boroadcast facilities in Nigeria, and even in Africa -- in keeping with NTA's status as Africa's biggest television network.

We are replicating these investments across our agencies: the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) @radionigeriahq, the Voice of Nigeria (VON) @voiceofnigeria and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) @NgNewsAgency.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the State House yesterday.

The delegation was led by the CBCN President, and Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso.

It was an opportunity for the President to highlight the gains being made under the Renewed Hope Agenda:

PRESIDENT TINUBU STRONGLY CONDEMNS ATTACK IN KAURU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KADUNA STATE

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent barbaric and cowardly attack on innocent citizens in Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack on innocent citizens in the early hours of Monday led to the killing of about 30 residents, including women and children and the burning down of their houses.

Describing the assault as an unprovoked act of terror against defenceless people, the President stressed that those who seek to destabilise the hard-fought peace and security, which Kaduna State has enjoyed in recent times, will not go unpunished.

President Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to Governor Uba Sani, the Government, and the entire good people of Kaduna State.

He reassures the state government and affected communities that the Federal Government stands firmly with them in this hour of grief and remains resolute in tackling security challenges nationwide.

“I have directed the Armed Forces, police, and relevant intelligence agencies to intensify operations across the affected areas to track down the perpetrators swiftly and restore normalcy to the region.

“Our administration has an unwavering commitment,” President Tinubu reiterates,” to strengthening security infrastructure, equipping response personnel, and neutralising criminal networks attempting to disrupt the peace of the nation.”

“I urge our local communities to cooperate with security forces by providing actionable intelligence that would help early response efforts," President Tinubu adds.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed satisfaction with the newly completed world-class television studio at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Headquarters and the ongoing upgrade of the National Press Centre, describing both projects as clear evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to modernising Nigeria's public information infrastructure.

The Minister made the remarks on Monday after inspecting the facilities in Abuja. He said the investments form part of the Federal Government's broader efforts to reposition government-owned media organisations to deliver quality public service broadcasting and information to Nigerians.

"What we have seen today is the fulfilment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's promise to modernise Nigeria's public broadcasting facilities. This is one of the best studios in Nigeria and among the finest on the African continent," the Minister said.

He noted that the newly completed NTA studio ranks among the best broadcast facilities in Africa and forms part of a broader investment programme across the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Minister commended the management and staff of the NTA for supporting the transformation process, adding that the reforms extend beyond infrastructure to improved content, professionalism, innovation and human capacity development.

He said the ongoing procurement of modern broadcast equipment for NTA stations nationwide, alongside investments in other government media organisations, would significantly improve public service broadcasting across the country.

Idris also described the recently relaunched Digital Switch Over (DSO) programme as a major milestone that complements the ongoing modernisation of Nigeria's broadcasting industry.
"The Digital Switch Over and the investments in modern broadcast infrastructure are opening a new chapter for Nigeria's information sector. By the time this reform programme is completed, Nigerians will witness a truly transformed public broadcasting system."

The Minister further disclosed that President Tinubu is equally committed to improving the welfare of workers in the information sector, stressing that the administration recognises the importance of investing in both infrastructure and personnel.

Following the inspection of the NTA facilities, the Minister visited the National Press Centre at Radio House, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing renovation.

He said the upgraded National Press Centre will become a modern media hub equipped with world-class facilities and high-speed internet connectivity to support journalists covering government activities and national events. "The National Press Centre must fulfil its mandate as Nigeria's foremost media hub. It is being redesigned to provide journalists with a conducive environment and modern facilities to carry out their professional responsibilities effectively."

The Minister urged the contractors to complete the project within schedule, noting that he would return for a final inspection before its commissioning.
