#sponsored While most put the pandemic in the past, my wife and other people who are immunocompromised like her are still at risk of getting severe COVID. #MyCOVIDReality is continuing to be safe at live events—for Emily’s health. So, what’s your COVID reality? @UpTheAntibodies
I see a lot of social media posts saying your nervous system will be at peace when you’re with the right person.
This isn’t true.
There isn’t a magical person who will keep your nervous system regulated.
Your nervous system will go into fight or flight any time core emotional wounds from childhood are triggered— regardless of who your partner is.
Especially during conflict.
The nervous system is habitual and autonomic. It responds to the subconscious past, not just the person in front of you in the present.
The work is learning how to witness it, cope in healthy ways, and be kind to yourself in the process.
@LauraMiers I am always shocked when a clinician asks me “Did you have covid?” With serious, spiraling post-covid health issues since mid-Feb 2020. I’ve been to 150+ medical appointments since. Yet I’ve only been asked that question 3x (two NPs, one MD)
@JeromeAdamsMD In dialogue between two romantic (or potentially romantic) partners, one dramatically pauses and asks the other, “Hey, can I ask you something?” before actually asking the question. I’ve never heard anyone preface a question to me (or anyone else) that way in real life.

Thirty days has September, April, June and November. All the rest have thirty-one, except for February which has twenty-eight, and January which has ninety-four.
“Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence.”
