Nigeria is experiencing an obvious resurgence in athletics, and the world is beginning to take notice. From Miracle’s miraculous run at the U20 World Championships in Oregon to Jessica Orji emerging as a new poster girl for African athletics, and the likes of Kanyinsola, Ashe, Nathaniel and Ogazi taking Glasgow by storm, something truly positive is happening in Nigerian track and field. But we are not there yet.

For our athletes, everything that needs to be given, we have started giving, including the training grants introduced since last year. We must continue to engage with these athletes as our own children, supporting them with the care and commitment they deserve.

We are determined, and I know I speak the mind of Mallam Shehu Dikko @ShehuDikko as well, to ensure that this commitment goes beyond athletics. Wherever our athletes are competing, the mandate from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT GCFR, is very clear: ensure there is money in the pockets of our children, ensure they receive the right care, and ensure they perform at the highest level of sport.

As we have drawn the curtain on an unforgettable #Glasgow2026 Commonwealth Games, I am immensely proud of every athlete, coach and official who represented Nigeria.

You competed with courage, honour and determination, proving once again that the Nigerian spirit can never be broken. Beyond the medals, you inspired millions of Nigerians, restored confidence in our sporting future and showed the world that Nigerian sports is on a steady path of renewal and excellence.

Beyond our 24 medals (10🥇, 7🥈, 7🥉) is not just a reflection of talent, but of discipline, resilience and the commitment to fly our nation's flag with pride.

My profound appreciation goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialABAT , for his steadfast support for sports development; to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko @ShehuDikko ;Commonwealth Games Nigeria, our Sports Federations, coaches, officials and the millions of Nigerians whose prayers, encouragement and belief inspired Team Nigeria throughout this campaign.
